Peacefully, on August 6, 2024, Murray Blake Hamm passed away at the Selkirk Hospital. Murray grew up in Morden.
Starting at 15, he worked pipeline. He graduated from Bemidji State University and moved to Selkirk in 1978, where he became a teacher, and administrator. He was a trusted mentor and coach to generations of students, athletes, and teachers.
An athlete, Murray was a national-calibre Little League back catcher and played NCAA DII football at Bemidji State. He was a member of the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach with the Lord Selkirk Royals. An outdoorsman, Murray harvested trophy bucks, waterfowl, and was a Master Angler.
He was predeceased by parents Fredrick and Katherina, siblings Eileen and Garry. He is survived by wife Janice (nee Dickson), daughter Blair Konyk (Johnathon), son Blake (Jessica), granddaughters Ruby and Kinsley, brother Donn, and numerous relatives and friends, many who considered him a second father figure.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Selkirk Junior High Gym, with burial at a later date.
