Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD (BUD) K. EDWARDS
It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of “Bud” Gerald Kenneth Edwards on August 1, 2024, at his home in Winnipeg. Bud was just a couple months shy of his 91st birthday.
Born October 2, 1933, in Fort William, Ontario, to Walter and Ivy Edwards, Bud was the seventh of ten children. It was a good friend of the family who nicknamed “Buddy” which stuck with him his entire life.
For all who knew him, Bud was never at a loss for words and loved to share his many stories of golf, music, travels, family, childhood memories, jobs he worked growing up, his love for the outdoors, sports, fishing, jokes, his favourite recipes, cooking and his Star Lake home.
His interest in music started when his Grade 4 teacher taught him to play the piano. He was a natural and he could sing too. He later taught himself to play the guitar and the harmonica, and in 1957 formed his own band “The Bud Edwards Trio” playing clubs and at special occasions. One of Bud’s musical accomplishments was playing the harmonica on Bobby Curtola’s hit record - Hand and Hand with You (1960).
Bud was passionate about golf and in 1959 at the Port Arthur Country Club started his career in the game. In 1960 he turned Pro and joined the CPGA in 1961 working at Port Arthur Country Club then at Chapples Golf Course (1961/1962). He moved to Winnipeg and became Head Pro at Wildwood Country Club from 1963 to 1966. It was in 1967 he got his dream job as Head Pro at Falcon Beach Golf Course, where he enjoyed teaching and helping others with their game until his retirement in 1996.
As a son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, boss, teacher and friend, Bud lived a great and full life-his way-and will be missed by so many dear family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ivy (Hampshire), siblings, Bobby, Ronnie, Irene, Murielle, Ruth, Leonard, Barb and Jimmy. Bud is lovingly remembered by his sister Dorothy; his dear friends, Sheila, Karen (Terry), Cory (Bette); sons, Charles (Carolyn), Max, Phillip; grandchildren, Kyle Julia, Rayanne, Trent.
At Bud’s request, cremation has taken place and he will be placed to rest at his mother’s grave in Thunder Bay at a later date.

I only saw this today for the first time. I grew up during summers at Falcon Lake and played the golf course frequently as a teenager. After asking for several years Bud hired me to work in the pro shop in my early 20's which I did for 3 years. I also met his son Charles and worked with him. By coincidence I met Charles a few years ago through a mutual acquaintance after having not seen him for at least 30 years. We certainly had some good times with Bud and I will always remember once meeting Moe Norman when he stopped in to see him one summer day. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Jon van der Krabben (Friend) on: Sep 09, 2024

My condolences to Sheila and all of the families, I met Bud in fall of 1992 then began working for him in 1993. I had applied for an assistant golf professional job but at the time, he had no openings. When he hung up the phone his partner Sheila asked who and what was that about. He told her my name then she said You hire him!!! Sheila was my mom's hairdresser and mine some times. So began my Golf Professional career which is still going strong after 30 years. Bud wasn't interested in how good I was at golf , he was more interested in my mechanics ability to repair and maintain his golf carts... Lol. I will Always remember the stories he shared about his early music career as a harmonica player and the times spent with Lengendary Canadian golfer Moe Norman whom I had the pleasure to meet one day as he came to look for Bud when driving past Falcon Lake. If you didn't find bud at the golf course it's because he was at his secret fishing spot!! When Bud retired after 29 years I always enjoyed seeing him when he'd come to hit balls at the range. Thanks Bud, I hope every putts going in and every fish is a master angler, RIP my friend - Posted by: Jeff Heiland (Former Employee/friend) on: Aug 14, 2024
