JACY SOTAS

It is with profound shock and sadness that we announce the passing of Jacy Sotas, a beloved Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Sister-In-Law, and Aunt. Jacy passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on August 9th, 2024 at the age of 48.

Jacy was born on July 16th, 1976 in Rivers Manitoba to proud parents Ron and Barabara Taylor and big sister Jodi. Jacy spent her childhood in Rivers and completed her entire education, kindergarten to grade 12, in this loving and supportive community.

After Graduation, Jacy attended Assiniboine Community College in Brandon, completing her business administration diploma. It was here that she met the love of her life, Micheal Sotas.

Upon completion of their diplomas at ACC, Micheal and Jacy moved west to Alberta, where they began their life together.

Their adventure began in Rycroft, Alberta and after two short years, they purchased their first home in the neighbouring community of Spirit River, Alberta. Micheal and Jacy were lovingly embraced by this community and on August 3rd of 2002, they were married in Spirit River. In September of the following year, 2003, they welcomed their beautiful daughter Aleigh into the world. She was the light of Jacy’s life. Two years later, Aiden was born and their family and her heart were complete.

Jacy was a cherished member of the Spirit River community, known for her warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to those around her. Micheal and Jacy have many fond memories of their time in Spirit River, including the great times spent with the Spirit River Rangers, the senior hockey team that Micheal was a member of for eight years.

In 2010, Michael and Jacy decided that it was time to return to their Manitoba roots. They moved to Minnedosa, Manitoba, much to the delight of both of their extended families. After a sudden change in life events, Micheal and Jacy returned to the Sotas Family farm to take over the farming operations.

Jacy embraced the farming lifestyle and community of Birtle. She loved that she was now able to have ALL the animals she wished for. Cats, dogs, and horses filled her heart and her yard. Michael and Jacy worked hard at building their farm while staying active in Aleigh and Aiden’s busy lives. horse shows, piano recitals, hockey games and ball games filled the already full schedule. Jacy loved being involved in the activities of her kids as well as cheering on and supporting her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed every minute of a blistering hot day at a horse show or a freezing cold weekend in a rink. Jacy's work ethic and dedication were evident in everything she did. Her contributions to the Birtle community will be remembered for years to come as she was always eager to lend a hand and bring people together.

Jacy's love for life extended to her family and friends, whom she treasured above all else. She always put the needs of others before her own. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome and she took a great deal of pride in her home and yard, as it was always immaculate.

Jacy is survived by her husband Micheal, daughter Aleigh, son Aiden, mother Barbara Oates (Wayne), father Ron Taylor (Bonnie), mother-in-law Dianna Sotas, sister Jodi Winkler (Dustin), sister-in-laws, Shauna Burton (Ty), and Larissa Sotas (Scott). nieces and nephews, Madeline and Emma Gylywoychuk-Winkler, Chloe and Casey Winker, Payton and Grady Burton, Rhea Sotas and Arlo Swaenepoel, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins who will forever cherish the memories they made with Jacy.
