ROBERT JAMES AMES

1963 - 2024

It is with much sadness we announce the sudden passing of Robert, loving husband, father, brother, friend.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Janice (nee Kozak) and daughter, Megan.

Rob will be remembered by his brothers Richard (Joanne), Russell (Nadeen) and Christopher (Kelly), and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Bob and Josie.

Rob was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the St. James area before moving to Cornwall, Ontario to study marine engineering. Following his education, he worked aboard ship in the St. Lawrence Seaway before moving to Churchill, Manitoba where he met Janice. With his family, they moved around the province as Rob earned his mechanical engineering technician certification and began working with Manitoba Hydro, his workplace for over 30 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre on August 22, 2024, at 1:30-3:30 p.m. for family, friends, and colleagues. A private burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, we welcome you to donate to a charity of your choice in Rob's memory.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Deepest Condolences to Janice and Megan, on the sudden passing of your husband and father. Condolences as well to Rob's siblings, and many other colleagues who also enjoyed his dry humor and gentle demeanor. His kindness and amazing ability to be non-judgmental and inclusive will be missed. He was clearly very intelligent and retained so much information, yet never hesitated to answer a question without making anyone feel inferior. - Posted by: Darlene Thevenot and John Watt (Co-workers, Gillamites) on: Sep 13, 2024

  • We have great memories of being Rob, Janice & Megan's neighbors in Gillam. Rob always took the time to play with our two boys along with Megan in the front yard. His willingness to lend a hand will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both Janice & Megan. - Posted by: Debbie and Tom Regehr (Former Gillam neighbors ) on: Aug 20, 2024

  • I remember Rob welcoming me to Henday when I showed up as the trainee. He showed me around his groups equipment and gave me a run down of how things worked in the station. It was really appreciated to have someone pay attention to the new guy, and take time to welcome him. He had helped me out multiple times on projects and maintenance development throughout the years. He will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Treffle Aussant (Coworker) on: Aug 20, 2024

  • Truly the kindest, most genuine person I have ever ever met. Soft spoken always wanting to help or have a good conversation or tell a funny joke. A man who beamed about his wife and daughter who was his world to him but always had an abundance of love in his heart to help anyone. He will be greatly missed by all. Gone too soon. - Posted by: Cindy Thorarinson (Work family ) on: Aug 19, 2024

  • My deepest sympathy and condolence to the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. Rob J. Ames. He was undoubtably one of the kindest souls I’ve been privileged enough to meet, always greeting you with his welcoming smile. Genuine, kind and authentic with every interaction, we have all been honoured to have had him in our lives. Although I was just getting to know and work with him more closely before his sudden passing, it was evident how much he enjoyed everything and everyone around him, especially his admiration for his wife and daughter. Rob will be greatly missed by us all, and we shall all aspire to spread his enthusiastic kindness into our lives and those of others as he so profoundly did for us! – Rest easy - Posted by: Jon Carandang (colleague) on: Aug 18, 2024
