RONALD SCOTT ANDERSON

January 30, 1934 - August 11, 2024

Ron was born to Gordon and Anne Anderson on January 30, 1934, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. He grew up in the Wolseley neighbourhood attending Laura Secord, Gordon Bell and eventually the University of Manitoba.

Ron’s greatest passion was the RCAF and he enlisted full time in 1953. He took pilot training and graduated as a Pilot Officer in the spring of 1954. He continued his training in Saskatoon where he met the love of his life, Eugenia Syrnyk. He returned to Winnipeg as a staff pilot training navigators and radio officers. Genie and Ron were married in 1955. A year later their son Scott was born. In 1958 Ron was transferred to Trenton, Ontario where they welcomed their daughter, Cheryl. While in Trenton Ron flew with 129 A & FF Squadron in single and twin-engine planes. His fondest recollection included four ferry flights across the Atlantic. Ron left the RCAF in 1962 and moved back to Winnipeg.

Ron’s path then led him to a career with IBM, in which he held positions in Montreal and Toronto. His final move with IBM was back to Winnipeg as the Branch Manager of the Office Products Division. Ron left IBM in 1980 to set up Superior Business Machines with Genie, where they eventually retired in 1995.

Several years and many fond memories were made with Genie, travelling south in the winter to visit with sister Diane. He sadly lost the love of his life in 2011. Ron was fortunate to find another partnership with Myrna Gierek and they enjoyed many bus tours together, and trips to Ontario and BC prior to her passing in 2021.

Left to cherish his memory are children Scott (Ruth) and Cheryl (Pat); grandchildren Kris, Tannis (Mark), Heather (Richard), Sandra, and Brock (Kara), as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Ron was predeceased by his wife Genie, parents Gordon and Anne Anderson, sister Diane Hundley, and partner Myrna.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 11:00 a.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada, Harrow United Church, or a charity of choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Uncle Ron wasn’t my uncle but I spent a lot of time at the Anderson’s growing up. Uncle Ron and Auntie Genie were so generous and always made me feel welcome. Uncle Ron was a great story teller and when I think of him I’ll remember his big laugh and the twinkle in his eyes. - Posted by: Kate letkemann (Friend) on: Aug 27, 2024

  • Ron and my mom Myrna we’re together for a few years and very grateful for each others company. My family was so very thankful for them meeting and being companions. I loved hearing the stories of his flying days! He was always so kind, generous and a true gentleman to me. Also, Cheryl and family were also so kind and lovely to be around. You will be so missed Ron! Rest In Peace ♥️ - Posted by: Wendy Lowey (Friend ) on: Aug 17, 2024
