With sadness, the family of Margery Bjornson, formerly of Riverton, Manitoba, announces her peaceful passing at age 88, with family at her side, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is remembered by her sons, Robert, James, and Ryan; grandchildren, Chelsea (Barry) and Sabrina; and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Willow, and Oliver. Also survived by her sister, Clarice Nelson; sister-in-law Nancy; and numerous extended family members. she was predeceased by her parents; her brother John; her husband Harold Bjornson; daughter-in-law Liza; and brother-in-law Al Nelson.
Born at Riverton on September 10, 1935, Elizabeth Margery (Baldwinson) was raised on the family farm, Fagriskógur, the eldest of three children born to Baldwin and Helga (Jonasson) Baldwinson and the fifth generation of her family to live on this historic homestead near Sandy Bar. After attending school in Riverton, she worked at Eatons' in Winnipeg and the Riverton Post Office. On August 18, 1962, she married Haraldur (Harold) Bjornson of Riverton, and together they established a home and thriving farm operation, which in later years they named Blomakur. For many years they farmed in close partnership with Harold's brother, Bjorn (Barney), and his wife, Virginia.
Margery's home and family were the focus of her life, and holiday celebrations always revolved around her kitchen, with meals fit for royalty. Musical, like many members of her extended family and her Bjornson in-laws, she played piano and enjoyed local dances, often with her husband performing as one of the well-known “Musical Mates”. In later years, she and Harold spent winters in Arizona, enjoying time with friends new and old. They also travelled to Iceland, and when the old family home was moved to Riverton as a historic house, Margery became a supporter of its restoration.
Margery's family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the Fisher Personal Care Home for their fine care and professionalism. Immediate family will attend a graveside service.
