Irene Violet Stewin passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, at Lions Manor on Sherbrook Street, surrounded by her loving family and the compassionate staff who cared for her so well.
Irene was a beloved aunt, survived by five nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. She spent her final eight years at Lions Manor, where she received exceptional care. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and management for their kindness and dedication.
A long-time and dedicated employee of the Canadian Wheat Board, Irene retired at the age of 72, proudly holding the title of the longest-standing employee. Her work ethic and commitment were admired by all who knew her. Irene had a playful spirit and was a fierce competitor in games like Dominos and Chinese Checkers. Scrabble was her favorite and she was insistent on enforcing the rules. She always had her Scrabble dictionary handy. Losing, however, was not something she took lightly, much to the amusement of her family. She also cherished the simple joys of life, especially the tea parties she hosted with her great-nieces, where laughter and love were always on the menu.
Irene is survived by her nieces and nephews, Michael Hiller (Janis), Carol Salamandyk (Gordie), Judy Ostopovich, Ken Stewin (Jane) and Stan Stewin (Lori).
Irene will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn in a private family service. While we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is now in the loving hands of her Lord Jesus Christ.
