ELIZABETH (BETTY) BROWN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Jean Brown on August 17, 2024 at Pine Falls Hospital in Manitoba at the age of 84.

Elizabeth, (Betty, Betty-Boop, Cat Gramma) was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 24, 1940.

She is survived by her partner of 37 years Raymond Fawcett, her sons, Ed (Kathy), Norman (Debbie), Kip, Todd and daughter Jill (Colin); her siblings, Charles (Gwen), Bob (Sandra), Sally, Peavey (Lisa) and Esther (Rob); grandchildren, Samantha, Karly, Ryan, Marty Jr., Matthew, Kevin, Natasha, Jordan, Jill, Quinton, Shantel, Cameron, Shane, Colton and Paige; great-grandchildren, Sierrah, Axel, Dylan, and Hazel; cat fur babies, Emily, Leroy and Catio.

She was predeceased by her sons, Marty, Donn and her sister Frankie and many kitty cats.

She instilled in her family a need to home too many cats.

Our home growing up had a revolving door for anyone who needed it - family, friends, foster kids (Kelly, Kenny, Max, Arthur and Jerry).

Betty loved her family, friends, and yes cats, hosting family gatherings, going to the casino, gardening, redecorating her home, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, puzzles, scrapbooking and crafting. She sat on the board of East Beaches Animal Services for many years.

We all remember how she constantly worried about us and the last words she would say to us when we left..."Call me when you're home".

Please join us to celebrate her life, Friday, September 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Beaches Community Centre at 65 Provincial Trunk Hwy 59, Victoria Beach, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Beaches Animal Services, Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Where do I start with my stories about Betty. Lots of laughter. I loved to make her laugh. I loved her laugh. I remember the very first time I met Ed and I said to Betty “If you grew a beard Betty, you and Ed would be twins!” She always made you feel welcome in her home. I loved her decorating style. She is the reason I pushed the limits on my quirky style. She did not have to teach me how to love cats as I already knew the connection. But she did teach me about compassion to animals and humans. Her memory will never leave my heart. - Posted by: Lori Vialoux (Family Friend) on: Aug 31, 2024

  • Jim and I are so very sorry to hear the passing of dear Betty. Sending heartfelt condolences to all the family and friends. She will surely be missed 😞🙏❤️ - Posted by: Doreen Robinson (Lisa’s sister) on: Aug 24, 2024

  • Betty taught me as a young girl that it didn’t matter what others said about you as long as you know the truth about yourself, those words have always stayed with me. I will miss my sister! - Posted by: Esther Warriner (Sister ) on: Aug 24, 2024
