Velma Irene Sturm passed away peacefully at Rideau Park Personal Care Home, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Velma was born on January 2, 1951 in Mayerthorpe, AB to George and Lena Sturm. Velma attended school in Mayerthorpe before moving to Brandon where she attended Assiniboine Community College, taking Social Services in 1977.
In 1981 Velma came to faith in God through Jesus Christ which changed the course of her life. She attended Brandon University from 1983 to 1985, and Winnipeg Theological Seminary in 1987. Velma opened Silver Cord Counselling working as a personal counselor before taking a position as a pastoral care worker at the Brandon General Hospital in 1997. She was employed at the hospital until her retirement when her health began to decline.
Having MS for many years did not stop Velma from having many adventures. She loved to travel and lived life to the fullest. Velma and her husband served in the Flin Flon Presbyterian Church and later in Winnipegosis. In 2007, Velma became a resident of Rideau Park Personal Care Home, where she made many friends through the activities program, many of whom have predeceased her.
Velma was predeceased by her parents, George and Lena Sturm; sisters, Marlene and Carmen; brother George and brother-in-law Ed. Velma will be lovingly remembered by her sister Amy Schatz; brother-in-law Rick Berry; nieces and nephews, Linda, Erwin, Arnella, Vivian, Cleo and Rhett, Bonnie, Brian and Greg, Curtis and Quinn Berry, Tammy Baker as well as friends, Rideau Park residents and staff.

A Memorial service for Velma will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church, 339 12th Street, Brandon, at 11:00 a.m.
