ELSBETH REGEHR

(nee WIEBE)

February 4, 1929 - August 31, 2024

With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Elsbeth Regehr (née Wiebe) at the age of 95. Elsbeth passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 31, 2024, at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on February 4, 1929, in Fürstenwerder, Germany, Elsbeth was the beloved daughter of Anni and Walter Wiebe. Her life was shaped by her profound love for both her family and nature. Elsbeth had a special connection to nature, finding joy and peace in the beauty of the outdoors. She often spent her days walking through parks and gardens, admiring the changing seasons, and appreciating the simple wonders of life.

In November 1947, she married Wilhelm Siegfried Regehr in Schönhorst, Germany. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Elsbeth's life. She and Wilhelm raised ten children: Doris Hamm, Helga Lessak, Helene Fletcher, Christiane Janzen, Diethelm Regehr, Martin Regehr, Annette Vander Zwan, Marita Mac Nab, Hellmut Regehr, and Thomas Regehr. Elsbeth's love for her family was infinite and she took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was a gathering place where stories were joyfully shared, and everyone felt welcomed.

Elsbeth is survived by her 10 children, 22 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren, each of whom she held close to her heart. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Annirose and Ingrid, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories. Elsbeth was preceded in death by her husband Wilhelm, her parents, Anni and Walter, her son-in-law Bert Hamm, and her granddaughter Danica Rae Mac Nab.

A funeral service to honour Elsbeth's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, with Pastor David Driedger officiating. Elsbeth will be laid to rest by her pallbearers, Jeff Hamm, Kyle Fletcher, Ellie Pociuk, Julia Janzen, Ryan Vander Zwan, Michael Regehr, Kendra Blake and Kristy St. Onge. Honorary pallbearer, Jared Mac Nab. Interment at Sage Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Elsbeth's name to the First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg, a community that was important to her.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • You wrote such a loving remembrance of your mom. She was quite the mom to handle ten children so well that you recall home as a "joyful gathering place" for her family. I met her last year while visiting my cousin at Dakota Place. She spoke very thankfully about her life and the good years that she was able to enjoy at Dakota House and the loving support that she felt from you, her family. I had known Doris a little in Winnipeg and she got married one week before Werner and I did. My Funk family was part of the early Danziger immigrants in 1951 that all attended First Mennonite Church and were Family to each other. Wilhelm and Elsbeth came later in the 60's so I never got to know them so well. Greetings to you, Werner & Margot Fieguth (Funk) - Posted by: Margot Fieguth (Danziger family friend) on: Sep 08, 2024
