EVELYN JOYCE IRWIN
Evelyn (Lyn) Joyce Irwin, 97, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2024, at the Charleswood Extendicare Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Born May 22, 1927, to George and Edith Kelly of Basingstoke, England, she married her husband, Ernest (Ernie) in 1945 and immigrated to Winnipeg as a war bride shortly there after in 1946.
Upon arriving in Winnipeg, Ernie and Lyn started a family and had three children, Kyra (Hugh; Scott, Neil), Terry, and Kelly, while living and working in the Winnipeg area.
In addition to the full-time responsibilities of raising a family, Lyn enjoyed crafting - especially needlepoint and petit point - and created many beautiful petit point pictures which adorned her homes.
In retirement, Lyn and Ernie spent winters in Texas where they became avid square dance and round dance enthusiasts, partaking in numerous competitions and using her excellent sewing skills to create intricate dancing outfits for their competitions.
They also bought a cottage on Caribou Lake, near Lake of the Woods, Ontario. Lyn loved her time at the lake and spent many wonderful summers entertaining friends and family at the cottage.
Lyn is survived by her son, Kelly, and predeceased by her husband, Ernie (2005), and daughters, Kyra (2006) and Terry (2014).
In keeping with Lyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be placed alongside Ernie. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. For those who wish to join us please meet at the funeral home for 12:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Lyn’s name.

Only today did I learn of Mrs. Irwin's passing. Mrs. Irwin was always very kind towards me. She shared a war bride history with my mom and she made me feel very welcome in her home. Deepest sympathies to Kelly and his family. - Posted by: Duncan Malcolm (Friend) on: Feb 15, 2025
