Date of Passing: Aug 31, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLORIA LYNN BALFOUR
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and sister on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Jean (nee Anderson) Balfour, her brothers-in-law, Robert Hill and Peter Wilson. Mom is loving remembered by her children, Gregory (Lynette) Buchanan and Glenn (Nicole) Buchanan as well as her grandchildren Alasdair, Murdoch, Daylen, Holden and Duncan who brought her much joy, love and pride. Gloria is also survived by her siblings, Merrilee Wilson, Dianne Hill and David (Maureen).
Gloria worked many years at the St James School Division as an evening Custodian, where she was also active in her local union. She was an avid reader and a lover of animals, especially horses and dogs. Glo had an eclectic taste in music, which she passed onto her boys and took a great interest in her genealogy. She was very proud of her family’s Ulster Scottish pioneer roots.
A private ceremony of remembrance will be held at a later date.
Thank you to first responders and the WPS for the compassion shown towards our family at this difficult time.

We are so sad to hear the news of Gloria’s passing. We remember her fondly chatting with her at the curling rink where she watched all of us curl and watch her grandchildren. We remember the good conversations and her great laugh. We remember she was a hard worker and loved her family with all her might. We send our deepest condolences to the whole family. My deepest sympathy is extended to her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren, sisters and brother. Although we lived far apart I have wonderful memories of visits to Kapuskasing and our family’s epic visit to Winnipeg where we camped in the backyard, went to our first concert and got to swim in an Olympic size swimming pool. Childhood memories that will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Gloria. - Posted by: Inez Giasson (Cousin) on: Sep 09, 2024

Dear Gregory & Glenn, I am so very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. We knew your parents well during our time living on Buchanan Blvd. We visited quite often. Your Mom, Gloria was a lot of fun to visit with, and it was nice having two young friends in the two of you to visit with our youngest son sometimes over there in the townhouses. My sincere condolences to both of you and your families. Take the best of care. Sincerely, Cheryl (& Earl) Robinson - Posted by: Cheryl Robinson (Friend & Neighbor) on: Sep 08, 2024

Our Condolences to Glen and Nicole. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Gloria and I worked together at Eaton's many moons ago. We lived in the same neighborhood and on occasion we would enjoy tea together. Whenever we crossed paths we always exchanged pleasantries. - Posted by: Debbie Furst (Friend) on: Sep 07, 2024

I was very saddened to learn of Gloria’s sudden passing. Our mothers were very close sisters, I have very fond memories of the summers when Merrilee, Dianne, Gloria and David would come to Kapuskasing. Our home was usually a popular place to stay. One summer my family travelled to Winnipeg instead. Our 1st exposure to a big city! Will never the Dairy. - Posted by: Fran Ringler (1st cousin) on: Sep 07, 2024
