Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN CHARLES FURTADO
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Charles Furtado, who left us on September 3, 2024, at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg. John’s journey began on July 14, 1956, in the serene town of Lagoa, São Miguel Island, in the Azores, Portugal. At the young age of five, he and his family courageously emigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg, where he would grow into a remarkable man whose life touched so many.
John dedicated his career to improving the lives of others. A full member of the Canadian Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists since 1976, he was deeply respected for his expertise, compassion, and leadership. For many years, he was a business partner at Anderson Orthopedics, where he was a beloved leader, mentor, and a cherished colleague within the medical community. His work was not just a profession, but a calling—one through which he changed countless lives by helping others regain mobility and independence. His legacy will live on through the care and commitment he showed to each of his patients.
John was a loving father, partner, uncle, brother, and friend. He is survived by his two children, Alia Dean (Myron Dean) and Davin Furtado, both of whom were his pride and joy. He cherished the newest addition to the family, his granddaughter Azora Dean, who brought so much light and love into his life. His partner for nine years, Nadine Faykes, was by his side with unwavering love and support. John’s loving family also includes his siblings: Jim Furtado (Debbie), George Furtado (Barb Furtado), and Elizabeth Peixoto (Arthur Peixoto), along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
John’s personality was magnetic and his ability to laugh, and offer guidance will be sorely missed by all who knew him. In his final years, he found great joy in traveling and sailing, becoming a certified sailor, and embracing new adventures that filled his days with peace and fulfillment.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at both Victoria Hospital and the Health Science Centre for the loving care they provided John during his final days.
A Celebration of John's Life will take place at Immaculate Conception Church. Service details are pending, please call Chapel Lawn Funeral Home at 204-885-9715 for more information, after Monday, September 9, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in his honour.

I went to junior high, general wolf school in Winnipeg with John. He was always one of the nicest and smartest kids in class. I later met him at his work, making hands and arms for people at a building on Wellington Crescent. Great guy gone too soon. - Posted by: Rick Fennell (School meet) on: Sep 07, 2024
