Date of Passing: Sep 09, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIAN ROBSON BOWMAN
Unexpectedly, at St. Boniface Hospital, on Monday, September 9, 2024, Ian passed away after experiencing a heart failure at his beloved home with his partner Velma by his side.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 41 years, Sam, whom he would visit at St. Vital Park daily, walking past her dedicated and frequently adorned bench. He was also predeceased by his parents, Henry and Marian Bowman; his sister Jean; and his niece Jan (Andrew).
He is lovingly remembered by his partner of 15 years, Velma; his sisters, Anne and Ruth; his daughter Kristine (Claude); his sons, Rob (Magaly) and Derek; his stepson Jason (Elisa) and his grandchildren, Samantha and Alison and Lilliann. He is also lovingly remembered by his friend Paul (Joelle) Johnson with whom he would frequently walk in the park; his friends from his years of surveying; as well as many other friends and family members.
Ian will be missed by many. He was kind and pleasant by nature; quick with a joke, quicker still with a helping hand. Ian, or Bo as he was known by many, enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: a good book, a good beer, and good conversation. He loved to travel with friends and family-- road trips being his preference. Whether it was to South Beach Casino, out west to see relatives, down south to Fargo or Grand Forks for some shopping, every destination was only about an hour away, if he was asked.
He cherished his home where he spent much of his adult life. Any changes, be it carpeting, windows, or screen doors, were always the sources of much discussion, and much pride upon completion.
Ian loved the field of surveying. Whether it was rampaging through the bush with a brush hook, or crunching numbers at his desk in the office, the common thread was always the same: he absolutely loved the people he worked with, and cherished the camaraderie.
Thank you, Ian, for your love, your selflessness, and your uncanny ability to make us all smile. Thank you for all that you did.

Me and my dog, Roscoe, met Ian and his friend, Paul, at St. Vital park about a year or so ago. Roscoe always enjoyed the treats Ian would stop and give to him. Knowing my dog was a senior dog who was very timid, Ian was always so gentle and kind to Roscoe. He would even break up the treats into small pieces and feed Roscoe out of the palm of his hand. He called me “kid”, which I appreciated since I am 50 years young, and it’s something my dad, who passed away many years ago, called me. I never told Ian that but it was just a little reminder of my dad when I would hear him call me that. Roscoe and I will miss seeing Ian. I was very sad to hear he passed away. We will think of him when we walk at St. Vital park, and we will definitely keep talking about him to all the other people and dogs he befriended. - Posted by: Lorissa (Fellow St. Vital park walker) on: Sep 18, 2024

I met Paul and Ian during my walk/ runs with my dog Wilfred through St. Vital Park. I enjoyed our conversations regarding the out come of the Bomber games and Jets games as well as any other sporting event. My dog Wilfred could spot Ian and Paul a mile away and would literally sprint to see them both after I would let go of the leash. I received so much pleasure watching Wilfred sprint to Ian and Paul. They brought so much pleasure and kindness to Wilfred and always had treats and carrots ready. Ian, thank you so much for your friendship, may you rest in peace. Cheers to you Young Fella ! going to miss you! - Posted by: Wade Cadger (Friend) on: Sep 15, 2024
