It is with great sadness, that the family of Verna Rose Hrabec (nee Zdrill) announce her passing at the age of 92 at River Park Gardens on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Verna is survived by daughter Diane and son Dale (Evelyn); grandchildren Jeff, Cindy (Ryan), Robert (Karen), Dan (Jo), John (Bri), David (Whitney), Chris, and Larissa (Vincent); great-grandchildren Kallee, Ryder, Spencer, Reece, Graysen, Kairo, and Naabe, sister-in-law Rosie and Olga and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Verna was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Rose (nee Tokarz) Zdrill; and her loving husband, Steve, of 66 years.
Verna was born December 25, 1931 on the family farm in Allegra, Manitoba. When Verna was 11, she moved with her Mom and Dad to Old Kildonan, Winnipeg. Verna met Steve at a dance social and after dating for a number of years were married. Soon after, they bought a grocery store on Leila Avenue where many of their customers were good friends, neighbours and relatives. In the fall of 1959, they moved to their new home on Johnson Avenue and lived there for over 60 years.
Mom was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments. She loved spoiling them, baking delicious treats to take home and she always treasured their visits. We love you and miss you. You will be forever in our hearts.
Verna's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at River Park Gardens for all their hard work, devotion and care during her final years.
In accordance with Verna's wishes a private family funeral and interment will take place.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

My deepest condolences to Diane and Dale and family on the passing of your dear Mother. As neighbors on Johnson, we always saw your Dad outside in the yard and your Mom would wave from the door with the biggest smile. I still walk by the house and think of them fondly.
