On September 12, 2024, Ray passed away at the age of 73.
Ray was born in Cartwright, Manitoba, where he spent his early years living and working on the family farm. In early adulthood, Ray spent time working in Northern Ontario with his brothers, before he accepted a job that took him to the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories. He then spent a few years working in Winnipeg, where he lived with his sister, before eventually settling down in Brandon. Ray began his career at the Manitoba Water Services Board. Ray then moved over to C&C Construction, where he was a valued leader and teammate, for the better part of 30 years.
Ray was an active member of Gate Community Church in Brandon, where he volunteered many hours and made lifelong friendships. Ray loved spending time in his garden, sharing all the fruits of his labour with his friends and family. Ray was a longtime Brandon Wheat King season ticket holder and was an avid hockey fan. Most recently, Rays spare time was devoted to cheering on his granddaughters Jayce and Langley in their many sports and activities.
Ray will be lovingly remembered by his son, Devon Fenton; daughter, Raelle (Joel) Whiteside; granddaughters, Jayce and Langley Whiteside. He is also survived by his sisters, Beryl (Gene) Nelson, Donna Fenton, Phyllis Fenton; as well as his brothers, Ken (Hilda) Fenton and Stan Fenton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray is predeceased by his father Merton, mother Gladys, brother Arnold and sister Beth Bessant.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon, MB.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North, Brandon, MB on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, 150 McTavish Ave East, Brandon MB, R7A 2B3.
