NORMA MERLE PERRY

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Norma Perry, on July 8, 2024, with her children by her side. Mom was born third of nine children to William and Elsie Ditchfield of Ashern, MB on November 12, 1927.

Norma was predeceased by her parents and in-laws, her great-granddaughter Jasmyn, her husband Harold of 65 years, her brothers, William (Betty), Gordon (Anne), Loyd and Jim Ditchfield, her brothers-in-law, Norman Richter and Lloyd Jersak. She was also predeceased by Harold’s siblings, Fred (Jessie), Pat (Isabel), Helen Thorlacius (Arnie) and Dora.

Norma will be remembered by her children, Dianne, Reg (Arlene), and Rob (Trish); her grandchildren, Carey Shelby, Kyle (Candice), Arlee Jones (Morgan), Jesse (Tiffany), and Alicia Giesbrecht (Travis); her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Zane (Serra), Quinn Shelby, Malakai and Tristan Perry, Calla and Sabine Jones, Luke and Neil Geisbrecht and Ava Perry; also her great-great-grandsons, Mateus and Elias Shelby. She will also be missed by her sisters, Loraine Richter, Merle Hurdle, Irene Jersek, brother Gary Ditchfield (Shannon) and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She married Harold Perry in June of 1948 and began their life on a small farm in Ashern, MB. They later moved to Winnipeg to achieve the best opportunities for their children where they lived until retirement. Mom was very resourceful, had part time jobs and found ways to help support the family income, yet be home for her children. Mom will be remembered for her delicious cooking and baking, landscaping and decorating talents. She was an avid curler and a lifetime curling fan. In the last eight years she became a Jets and Bomber fan.

Norma and Harold retired to the Winnipeg Beach area where they bought, renovated and sold several cottages. In the later years they moved to Gimli living at Shore Point, Aspen Park and Waterfront Centre. Her last move was to the Assisted Living in Arborg. She enjoyed her eight years there as well as the residents and staff.

Norma and Harold travelled extensively though Canada, United States, Mexico and Europe. They spent 24 years at the Pine to Palm trailer park in Texas during the winter months.

Mom was happiest when surrounded by her family and especially the little children. She was well loved and has profoundly impacted the lives of her family and will be sorely missed.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Arborg Assisted Living for their kind and compassionate care and friendship. We would also like to thank the staff at the Percy E. Moore Hospital in Hodgson, MB, for their compassionate care in her final days.

If people choose, donations can be made in Norma’s memory to the Arborg Assisted Living, Box 935, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0; the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Box 160, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0 or a charity of their choice.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Arborg, MB on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
