It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ken Rodie, beloved husband, father and grandfather who passed away after his battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 65 on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
He is survived by his devoted wife Barbara, and their children, Christopher (Kayla) and Scott (Caroline), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Jack and Leo. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Helen, and his sister Diane. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Douglas (Janet), Karen, Tanis (Anthony), and Michael (Orissa), and his brother-in-law Tom, as well as large extended family and many friends.
Ken grew up in old St. Vital where he met his lifelong friends Dave, Kim and Ed. The youthful adventures that brought them closer transformed into a deep bond as they raised their young families together. He graduated from Glenlawn High School and devoted his career to the University of Manitoba at the Bannatyne campus where he was a machinist for over 30 years.
He was an adventurous spirit and enjoyed being active, and always kept himself busy. He loved to ski and go on evening strolls with his dogs. Ken enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with friends and family, creating cherished memories. His love for hockey extended beyond watching games, and he actively coached Chris and Scott sharing his passion and enthusiasm for the sport.
Ken had a great sense of humour and brought joy and laughter to everyone around. While he was good for a laugh, Ken was very dependable and all those close to him knew they could always count on him. He had the ability to connect with everyone and always ended up running into someone he knew no matter where he went. Ken will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and care for Ken in his final years of life.
Join us to celebrate the life of Ken on Saturday, October 5 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. We invite family and friends to gather, share memories, and honour his legacy any time between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. He coached one of my boys in hockey. He always had a smile on his face and encouraged those boys with all he had. Anytime we bumped into him he’d ask how my boys were doing. He was a good and kind man. My deepest condolences to his family, may you take comfort in knowing his kindness has left a mark on so many who knew him. - Posted by: Lora (Deighton) Meseman (Friend - Hockey mom) on: Oct 05, 2024
