GILBERT PETIT

August 20, 1942 -

September 26, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we share the loss of Gilbert Petit, who passed in peace on September 26, 2024, at the age of 82.

Gilbert was predeceased by his wife Noëlla Petit (née Beauchemin). Left to mourn him are his five children, Jacqueline (Kenny), Bernie (Tammy), Nicole (Louis), Noël (Angie), and Lynette. He was a caring pépère to Robert (Katelynn), Danica (Justin), Mario (Brooklyn), Gabrielle (Spencer), Savannah, Kailey (Liam), Justin, Rémie, Annabelle (Joey), Cayden, and a great-grandfather to Brooklynn, Haytham, Blake, Hunter, Maisie, Isabella, Nathan and another baby boy Petit on the way.

Gilbert grew up in Ile des Chênes, meeting his wife Noëlla at a young age, they soon began a loving marriage which spanned 60 years of pure and complete devotion. Together they raised their family and shared their faith in God, while always giving a helping hand to others.

A genuinely self-made man, his work was his life’s passion. His tireless work ethic is greatly reflected in the development of his successful company, Centennial Gravel & Excavating Ltd. in 1974. His leadership and commitment paved the way for the family business to continue to thrive today, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Dad was a strong, stubborn and determined man. He was tough but fair and prided himself in teaching his children the value of hard work. He was and will continue to be greatly known for his witty sense of humour. Those that knew him, knew he didn’t always have much to say, but when he did, it was usually with the purpose of making us laugh. We find comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with mom.

“We love you dad/pépère, say hi to mom/mémère for us. May you both now rest in peace, together.”

The family wishes to send a special thank you to all of the staff at Niverville Heritage Life Personal Care Home for their care and compassion during Gilbert’s last chapter of his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Niverville Personal Care Home or to a charity of one’s own choice.

A private family service will be held as per Gilbert’s wishes.
