SHARON ELAINE KELLY

(née OLSON)

August 29, 1949 –

September 30, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sharon.

Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Irene and Douglas. She leaves behind her children, Coleen (Duane) and Jason (Alison); sisters, Karen, Robyn, and Jayne; grandchildren, Riley, Kaitlyn, Logan, Juliette, and Miles; nephews and niece, Rob, Paul, Laura, and Anders; cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends.

Sharon’s greatest joy was her family. She adored Coleen, Jason, and their families. Her love for them was fierce, and every mention of her children brought a smile to her face. She was their biggest supporter, cheering them on through every challenge and triumph.

Sharon’s twin sister, Karen, has lost not only a sister but a lifelong best friend and crib partner. Their bond was like two pieces of a puzzle, and things will never feel quite the same without Sharon.

Sharon and Karen were the heart of their family, bringing people together for meals, card nights at the beach, or gatherings with friends. Sharon’s warmth made everyone feel welcome.

As a young single mother, Sharon worked hard to support her children, putting herself through nursing school. She enjoyed a fulfilling 33-year career at CancerCare Manitoba, where she built lasting friendships.

Sharon spent most of her summers at Victoria Beach, forming deep connections with the community there. She greeted everyone with a smile and loved spoiling any visiting dogs with treats. Her passion for animals was boundless, and she rescued many throughout her life. We imagine those animals are now joyfully reunited with her.

Sharon was also a food lover who enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with loved ones. Her famous carrot cake and chocolate zucchini cake were favourites.

Sharon’s absence leaves a profound loss in our lives. We’ll remember her in the small moments: a glass of wine with friends, a family meal, or the sight of a wild animal. She was kind, generous, and deeply loved. Her spirit will live on in our hearts.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 603 Wellington Crescent (First Universalist Unitarian Church).

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Black Bear Rescue Manitoba in her honour.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Sharon and Karen were my babysitters growing up on Rothesay Street. They were both wonderful. We had so much fun and looked forward to the times my parents went out so we could have them come over. “The Twins” parents were good friends of my late parents so we remained friends long after the baby sitting days were over. They really were inseparable identical twins and the best of friends. I am so sorry to hear of this. Many warm thoughts to Karen, Robyn, Jayne, Coleen, Jason and the entire family. • Sharon looks like my X-probation officer and my friend from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I was just looking at some old wedding photos, seen her in them and missed her. Always took the time to listen to me and help me. She was my earth angel and I trusted her with all my heart! ❤️ - Posted by: Natalie Cobbing (Friend) on: Feb 14, 2025

  • Today Maria Monch and I are talking about Thanksgiving Weekend and we are remembering Sharon with much love and gratitude for knowing this incredible person and co-worker. Always a smile from Sharon at work with a bouncy personality. Maria and I were just sharing that we never saw Sharon with a sad appearance on her face at any time. She was a huge credit to CancerCare Manitoba, working with Pediatrics (children's Clinic). Our sincere Condolences and Love to the entire family. May sweet memories of your Mom/Grandmother comfort you at this time. In Sympathy, from Maria Monch and Orrasia Mabbutt (Co workers @ CancerCare Manitoba). - Posted by: Orrasia Mabbutt (Co Workers) on: Oct 12, 2024

  • I am deeply saddened by the news of Sharon's passing. I am so very sorry for her family, someone once said when you love someone with dementia you lose them more and more everyday. When they are diagnosed, when they go through different stages, when they go into care and when they die. 😢 This is called “Ambiguous Loss”. ‘Rapidly shrinking brain’ is how doctors described it. I wouldn't wish Dementia on anyone. As the persons brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are. They can eventually become bedridden, unable to move and unable to eat or drink. There will be people who will scroll by this message because dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has fought or is fighting a battle against Dementia. To raise awareness of this cruel disease. I would appreciate it if my friends could put this on your page for today. Hold your finger anywhere on the message to copy and paste to your Timeline.💛💛💛Thank you💕💕💕For all those that have had friends or family members living with Dementia 😞😘😘😘⚘⚘⚘💜💜💜Special Thank you to all willing to post to their timeline irked with Sharon for many years at Cancer care. - Posted by: Wendy Petrushak (Friend & Co-worker) on: Oct 10, 2024

  • Karen, how truly sorry I am to hear of Sharon's passing. Not only was she your twin sister, but you two were so very close all of your lives. We certainly enjoyed the two of you while working at the bakery in the summer months. All of our customers never could tell you two apart. Your smiling faces will never be forgotten. On behalf of myself, Brad & Sheldon, we express our sincere condolences.. - Posted by: Carole Tiefenbach (Einfeld) (Former boss at Einfeld's bakery) on: Oct 06, 2024

  • The picture in the paper is exactly like I remember Sharon. I don't think I ever saw Sharon or served her in records when she didn't smile at me in that sweet friendly way. She was always so pleasant friendly and pleasant at work. I feel so sad for her family, her children, and sisters. They were such a unique family. A family to be admired and envied, and that is what will see them through this sad time. - Posted by: marianne humphreys (co-worker) on: Oct 05, 2024

  • We are so sorry for your loss of Sharon! She was a wonderful person and we unfortunately have not been in touch in a long while but have such wonderful memories of Sharon and our hearts are breaking for Coleen & Jason, her sisters and and their families. She was an awesome Mom, sister and friend to all for sure. She was always smiling and laughing and had an incredible positive attitude. Sharon will definitely be missed by all and especially by her twin sister Karen. They are the epitome of identical twins with an unbreakable bond! Take care and stay strong! Sending you all hugs and love! - Posted by: Bob & Debbie Lotocki (Friend and co-worker) on: Oct 05, 2024
