EDMUND FARIDY

Born: July 12, 1931

Date of passing: September 13, 2024

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Edmund Faridy on September 13, 2024, at the age of 93.

Born in Tehran, Iran, Edmund completed his medical degree and then moved to the United States to complete his post-graduate training. He met the love of his life, Mirla David in Denver, Colorado. They immigrated to Canada in 1964, settling first in Montreal before arriving in Winnipeg in 1966. He was a professor at the University of Manitoba Medical School where he did research and taught respirology to generations of medical students.

After retirement, Edmund travelled the world with Mirla. He was patron of the arts, he enjoyed entertaining, and he was a raconteur with a great sense of humour. He was proud of his Armenian heritage and supported the Armenian community in Canada and abroad. He lived a full life and was grateful to have been able to stay in his home until the end.

Edmund was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mirla David-Faridy. He is survived by his son Trent (Sunny), his daughter Fay, and many nieces and nephews. He was always very proud of his grandchildren Robbie, Justin, Alex and Kevin.

The family would like to thank everyone who helped Edmund through his final years, especially Drs. Brian and Michelle Sharkey, Vicente Parrenas, Fr. Dado Parrenas, Jave Francisco, Paul Hakim, Dr. Felix Sikora and Michelle C-Balancio.

A private funeral service was held on September 18, 2024.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Many years ago I served on a board with Ed and he was a huge contributor of great questions and ideas. When he spoke, all listened. He had a great sense of humor and as can be seen in the photo always the slightest beginnings of a smile ready to burst. We lived a couple of blocks from each other and occasionally would meet up on the sidewalk, or at the Concert Hall and catch-up. It was a pleasure and an education to know Ed. - Posted by: Sheldon Bowles (Long time admirer ) on: Oct 12, 2024
