Peacefully on October 5, 2024, at Charleswood Extendicare.
Predeceased by her husband Arthur she is survived by her children Carol Miles (Gerry), and Robert Hammersley (Kristin) and grandchildren Nicole and Denise Hammersley and 18 nieces and nephews.
Born in Korosten, Ukraine, Russia, to Sara and Reinhold Osterman, Pauline immigrated with her parents and siblings, Sinaida, and Robert to Canada in 1927, where they made Regina home. Her youngest sister Tania was born in Regina.
Pauline had several cousins in Canada already, and quickly bonded with a young Irma Bergstresser, who was the same age. They remained best of friends for the remainder of their lives.
In 1953, Pauline Osterman married Arthur Hammersley, and on July 4, 2023, they marked their 70th anniversary with family.
Pauline worked most of her life, except while raising her two children. She was a respected member of the team at Hignell’s bindery, and after retiring at 65, returned to work for her first experience in hospitality at Polo Park. After a few years she again retired and went on to volunteer with seniors’ groups well into her late 70’s, often providing support to seniors considerably younger than she was.
A founding member of Saint James Lutheran Church, Pauline was an active member of the sewing group, altar guild, LWML, taught Sunday school and enjoyed singing with the choir. She participated in Charleswood Adult programs.
The highlight of her senior years was the birth of two granddaughters whom she adored. A special relationship existed with each, whether they were baking or gardening together, or just having a visit.
