Peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home, Edna passed away at the age of 87 years.
Edna will forever be loved and remembered by her son Wayne, daughter Darlene and son-in-law Randy as well as grandsons, Michael and Matthew. She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1975 and her parents, James and Edith Young.
Edna was born in Winnipeg on July 27, 1937 and was a proud descendant of the Lord Selkirk Settlers. She was a dedicated volunteer in many organizations over her lifetime such as Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, St. James and Tuxedo Lawn Bowling Clubs, as well as holding many positions on the boards of these and other organizations. She belonged to Kildonan Presbyterian Church and later St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Edna willingly volunteered on committees within the Church, especially enjoying holding Secretary positions for many of them. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary which is now known as Helping Hands, the Women’s Missionary Society and was involved in many World Day of Prayer Services, to name a few.
In her pastime, Edna enjoyed knitting and crocheting baby sweater sets, blankets for newborns, slippers and mittens as well as children’s sweaters that were lovingly donated to hospitals, Christmas Cheer Board and the Churches Food Bank for those in need. It made her heart happy to donate to God’s Children.
Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery, 201 John Black Ave. Family and friends wishing to attend are asked to gather in front of the Old Church before proceeding to the graveside.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for their compassionate care and kindness.
