Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIE (TABISZ) DOWNEY
Marie died peacefully, surrounded by family members, at Health Sciences Centre (HSC), Winnipeg, from complications due to cancer.
Marie-Isabelle Patricia Tabisz-Downey was born in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her mother Ellen (Clark) Tabisz and is survived by her father George Tabisz; brother Ted (Jody) of Whitby, Ontario; daughters, Kayla (Thor), Amber (Travis) and Kassya; grandson Jack; stepmother Sita Maas Geesteranus, stepsiblings, Steinar, Sanne and Karsten; husband Mike Downey, father-in-law Brian Downey; and by close family in Ontario and Quebec.
As a child she enjoyed many summers at the Clark family cottage at Lake of Bays, Muskoka, and later at the family cottage at Victoria Beach. She enjoyed travelling with family, especially to England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Florida and the Caribbean. Until allergies interfered, she was a passionate horseback rider.
Most of all, Marie was a devoted mother to her three daughters, molding their characters with kindness and good sense. Remembered will be Marie's buoying spirit, cheerfulness, and especially her kindness to all. Marie loved animals, especially her dogs and cats. There will be a noticeable decline in views of the film Gone with the Wind.
She will be missed by her long-time good friend Kim Walker. The two were inseparable, encouraging each other through the challenges and joys of life.
She valued the support and wise counsel of her uncle Edmund Clark, especially during her last years.
Marie spent most of her life in Winnipeg, but also lived in Ottawa, and England. She received an eclectic educational experience from Ryerson School, St. Maurice School, Balmoral Hall, Vincent Massey High School, and the U of Winnipeg Collegiate, as well as Queen Edith School (Cambridge, UK) and St. Patrick's High School (Ottawa). She was a graduate of the baking programme at Red River College.
The family wishes to thank the medical staff at CancerCare Manitoba and HSC, Winnipeg, for their expert care of Marie over the past two years. Much gratitude is expressed to Marie's homecare team from Comforts of Home, especially Amber and Emma.
In accord with Marie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held for family.
