NICHOLAS HOROBETZ

January 21, 1966 - October 13, 2024

Nicholas passed away on October 13 at Riverview Health Centre after a three and a half year battle with cancer which he valiantly fought till the end.

He leaves his father and mother, Russell and Dolores, his brother Joel and his wife Tina, their children, Darrah and her partner Jesse and Gage and his wife Kelly, his sister Michelle and her four boys, Nathan, Noah, Jordan, and Justice.

Nick started working for ABD, then went to Palliser and finished at BDL. He enjoyed sports. In his younger days he played hockey and baseball and he and his brother Joel represented Manitoba in Alberta in the national baseball championship. But his favourite sport was Nascar, travelling to many races in Canada and the United States. In the summer he was at Riverside Camp every week-end and holidays where he had a lot which housed his two fifth wheels (one for Mom and Dad and one for him).

Fishing was one of his pastimes. As a member of the Manitoba Wildlife Association, he was the Fish Chairman of the Labatt Wildlife Association. Music was integral to him. He loved all kinds from rap to country. He amassed quite a collection of records, tapes, and CD’s. Nick attended many concerts and music festivals. However, his favourite one was Dauphin Country Fest which he attended every year for many years and still managed to go this year even though he was so very ill.

His last 55 days were spent at Riverview Palliative Care. The family would like to thank all the people who gave up their time to come visit him, sent him good wishes, and phoned him. Also, thanks to the Riverview staff and nurses who took such good care of him.

In accordance with Nick’s wishes cremation will take place and no service will be held. Please celebrate his life by having a good Labatt brew while reminiscing of all the good times you had together.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I was so saddened to hear of Nick's passing. He and his dad Rusty were a part of the Nascar pool and we have celebrated the last race of the season many times together. I'm going to miss him very much. Deepest condolences to Rusty and Dolores and the rest of the family. RIP Nicky - hope they let you drive that race car fast up there. - Posted by: Dawn Klatt (Friend - Nascar Pool) on: Jan 15, 2025

  • We are both so sorry to hear of Nicks' passing. We just learned of it today. We will miss our visits to the campfire and the good times we had over the past years. Our deepest sympathy to Rusty, Dolores and family. - Posted by: Al and Margaret Parris (friends) on: Nov 16, 2024

  • So sad to hear of Nick’s struggles. We have good memories of racing and even a Brittany Spears concert. Nick was a friend to all, always lightened up the room and was such a dedicated son. He will be missed. Big hugs to the family. - Posted by: Sheilagh and Tony Antoniuk (Friend) on: Oct 26, 2024
