Joanne Marie Jonsson, of Victoria Beach, died peacefully October 19, 2024, at Pine Falls Hospital.
Born in Winnipeg on October 13, 1940, the second child of three, to parents Joseph and Joanna Morton.
Joanne is a proud graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and spoke with great fondness of her education there. She was also a longtime polio survivor.
She was married on May 31, 1960, to Jack Jonsson - predeceased for 22 years.
An avid horticulturalist, she operated a successful greenhouse enterprise on her Victoria Beach property for many years. Joanne was deeply involved in supporting and shaping the Victoria Beach Sports Club/Community Centre as it evolved from an earlier and simpler time. My Mom was always an active participant in the Merry Makers where she honed her cooking skills. She was competitive in local curling and baseball and remained an avid sports observer throughout her life. Her culinary skills were appreciated by the many tradespeople and mariners that dined at Hillside Marina where she operated the Dockside Deli at the family harbour.
It would be universally agreed that her superpower was cooking large meals for groups of people at a moment’s notice, making it seem effortless.
She supported Jack with his many remote work excursions - planning and packing enough meals to sustain crews for months without road access.
Joanne is survived by her children: sons Brad (Tish)*, Dan (Kristin) and Greg (Irelis), grandchildren - Cameron (Isabel), Connor (Alli), Cole, Robyn and Jack as well as her sister Judy.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, brother Jay and grandchildren, Matt and Shae.
A family service will be planned for a later date.
