Mel passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024, two days shy of his 90th birthday.
He will be missed by his wife Heidy, his son Gord and wife Melody, (Lyndsay and Leah), daughter Sharon and husband Terry, (Alex and Adrian), daughter Nadine, his brothers, Len and Eugene, and several nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by his eldest son Brian, sisters, Sylvia and Elsie.
Born in Cowan, Manitoba, Mel moved to Winnipeg in his early 20s, where he established a successful career as an insurance broker. In his younger days, he enjoyed a variety of activities including hunting, fishing, curling, and flying planes. Mel loved playing the guitar and singing; his great sense of humour made him the life of any party. After retirement, he kept busy cooking, woodworking, and crafting violins.
In accordance with Mel’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
His family would like to thank the staff at Tudor Personal Care Home for their care.
In memory of Mel, donations can be made to the Diabetes Canada.
