MURRAY SIM

June 4, 1934 - October 24, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Murray Sim at the age of 90.

Murray will be deeply missed by his children, Shawna (Miles), Bradley, and Karen; daughter-in-law Joyce; brother Barry; his grandchildren, Maegan (Chris), Ashley (Tenille), Leslie, and Cody; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Bennett and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary and brother Roy.

Born in 1934 in Winnipeg, Murray grew up on Rutland Street and attended Lindenwood School, where he played hockey, lacrosse, and curled. A skilled tradesman, he worked for Minakee Construction and quickly took on apprenticeships in both carpentry and mechanics. On June 23, 1955, Murray married Mary Elyshen, and they began their journey together in Fort Garry, later moving to St. James to raise their three children.

Murray’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to open Pembina Auto Electric, and he became one of the youngest Esso dealers in the country. After many successful business ventures, the family moved to Springfield, Manitoba, where they purchased an acreage with a small hobby farm. Murray bought Springfield Motors in the 1960s and spent two decades driving gravel trucks and school buses, and he even became the Springfield Fire Chief. An avid hunter in the Hartney region, they also made many memories at their cabin on Lee River. Murray obtained his pilot’s licence, taking numerous flights with Mary to destinations like Texas, Wisconsin, Florida, and California.

Upon retirement, Murray and Mary enjoyed two decades as snowbirds, travelling to Arizona, Texas, and eventually settling in Florida, where they formed many cherished friendships. Murray developed a passion for golf, winning numerous tournaments and senior championships in Florida and throughout Manitoba.

Murray and Mary later settled into condos in Oakbank, enjoying time with family and friends. After Mary moved into Kin Place, Murray visited her daily until her passing in 2016. Murray then moved to Springfield Place and Red River Place, spending his final days at Kin Place in Oakbank.

Murray’s legacy of love, hard work, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be forever missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. Papa, Murray, Dad - you have done so much for the family, and you can finally rest knowing you will remain in our hearts and memories, forever. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the healthcare staff at Red River Place, Kin Place, and Beausejour Hospital for their compassionate care and support during this time.

Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Murray will be laid to rest with Mary at Sunnyside Cemetery.
