LIBUSE (LIBA) PROCHAZKA

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved Mom and Babi on October 1, 2024.

She was predeceased by her husband Bohumil "Bob", parents, Miloslav and Marta, sister-in-law Hana, nephew Mila and nephew-in-law Jiri. She is lovingly remembered by her son Petr, daughter-in-law Grazia, granddaughters, Alessia and Alena (Oliver), brother Milos, niece Rita and her children, Marek and Tereza of the Czech Republic.

Mom was born in Prague, Czech Republic. She graduated from The Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague where she met Dad.

The family immigrated to Canada in November 1968, first touching down in Winnipeg then carrying on to Calgary. They ultimately settled in Virden.

She worked hard to help Dad get established as a dentist in Canada. Our home in Virden was always warm and welcoming, filled with the laughter of our wonderful friends enjoying Mom’s amazing cooking. In 1984, Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg and she made many new and dear friends. They loved golfing, swimming, walking and travelling together.

Mom’s greatest joy came from being Babi to Alessia and Alena. She treasured their times together, baking, having sleepovers, going to Tim Hortons at Grant Park and watching Jeopardy together on the big, comfortable couch. She gifted them each a handwritten cookbook of her recipes so that they could always enjoy the food she had made for them. Alessia and Alena will forever treasure these memories of their wonderful Babi.

In later years, Mom and Dad still enjoyed getting together with family and friends, including meeting with the Grant Park coffee crowd and trips to the cottage.

Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff of The Wellington and West Park Manor for taking such wonderful and compassionate care of Babi.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

According to Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., Father Gerry Ward officiating.

We will always love you Babi

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Your Parents arrived in Virden around the same time we did from England. They actually attended our party celebrating becoming Canadian citizens. Your dad was my brilliant dentist. I visited them in their home in the Peg. Our mutual friend was my forever friend Irma McDougall. We have been living in Oakville, ON since 1978. Irma only let me know today such sad news your mother was an intelligent warm vivacious lady. Very brave and stoic. Such a waste of her talent but she had her reasons. I am ashamed of the way she was treated in Calgary by the nursing sister just because she did not have the full grasp of the English language at that time. I wish that nursing sister had realized she was speaking down to a doctor. Shame on her. In my mind as an immigrant Virden was a lovely place to begin life in Canada. I know they began in northern Ontario but Virden was blessed to have your Dad as a dentist. Happy New Year to you and your family Petr. God bless. • Sincere condolences from Milan and Zdenka Zima, friends from Brandon since 1968. Their daughter Margaret, and granddaughter Christine. Fond memories of visiting Liba and Bob in Brandon and Winnipeg when the grandchildren were young. Travelling to Mexico, golfing in Virden, Brandon and Winnipeg. Spending new years at the Czechoslovakian club will be a favourite memory Milan and Zdenka treasure forever. With love and condolences. - Posted by: Zima Family (Long time family friends ) on: Nov 24, 2024
