GERALDINE TAYLOR

(nee ZUKOR)

January 21, 1938 - November 5, 2024

Peacefully, after a brief, brave battle with cancer, Geraldine Taylor of Oakbank, Manitoba passed away with her family by her side.

Gerry was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Michael Zukor, her husband George in 2006, and her brother-in-law Dan Sernyk in 2020. Gerry leaves to mourn her children, Hilary (Bob), Llewelyn, Darlene, Laureen, Donna (Hal), Shirley (Carey), and Bettyanne (Norm), grandchildren, Isabella (Charlie), Alexander, Darcie (Scott), Stacy (Cristian), Daniel (Charlotte), and Dylan (Linda), and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Sernyk, and many cousins. Gerry’s life was full of love, and her many friends and colleagues in the dog world will miss her kindness, generosity, and mentorship - especially Lynda Scott and Joyce Love.

Gerry’s interest and love of dogs was initially supported by Betty and Allan Jenkins, and they helped her on her way to owning, breeding and showing Labrador Retrievers. Later, she owned, showed, and bred elegant Maltese, and, with husband George, Welsh Terriers and German Shorthaired Pointers. In the 1980s, Gerry began her work as a dog show judge, eventually travelling the world in that capacity. She retired from judging in 2023 after serving for forty years. She was also involved with the Canadian Kennel Club for many years and served on the Executive of the Fort Garry Kennel Club for the last thirty years.

Many thanks to the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, especially nurses Corey, Priya, and Chessa, and Drs. Gillette and Desautels.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Mosaic Funeral Home, 1839 Inkster Blvd, Winnipeg. Interment to take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in Gerry’s name.
