It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather, cousin, grandfather (to his niece’s and nephew’s children) and friend, Danilo Castro Millar. He passed away in the arms of his loved ones after a fierce, valiant, and inspiring battle with Parkinson's disease that made all those who treated and cared for him in awe of his faith and strength of will.
Danilo was born on April 12, 1957, in Daraga, Albay, Bicol, Philippines. He immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1984, where he lived with his family. He passed away on November 16, 2024, at 7:22 p.m. in Saint Boniface Hospital at the age of 67 years.
Danilo is survived by his beloved wife Teresita, daughters Daisie and Debbie, and son Dante, as well as his brothers and sisters – Leonila Dela Torre, Rolando Millar, Corazon Millar, Rufina Centeno, and Abelardo Millar. And many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his loving parents, Pedro Millar and Augustina Castro Millar.
Danilo grew up in Daraga, Albay, Bicol, Philippines and later moved to Sto. Tomas, Batangas, Philippines, where he had many fond childhood memories of helping his family tend to their farm.
After marrying the love of his life, Teresita, he moved to Canada, where they had their daughters and son, and built an amazing community of family and friends. Danilo and his wife were able to sponsor many of his nieces and nephews from the Philippines. Everyone was welcome at their home where he would prepare meals and beverages and host and laugh with family, friends, and guests alike. Danilo was a devoted husband and supportive and loving father. He made sure his wife and children had everything they needed.
Throughout his time in Winnipeg, Danilo worked hard as a painter and lead hand supervisor for 20+ years at Monarch Industries Ltd., until he had to transition to long-term disability due to his Parkinson’s diagnosis. He always had a listening ear and a caring heart for his work colleagues. Danilo was an amazing cook, enjoyed making meals for his family and friends and had a special gift of massage, which he willingly shared with whoever was in need.
His greatest joy and dearest treasures were his wife and children. He embraced being a husband and father, loved them with all his heart and enjoyed every moment with them. All of us will miss his laugh, kindness and warmth.
The viewing/lamay is to be held on Friday, November 29 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue from 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with Funeral services to be held at Saturday, November 30 at St. Edward’s the Confessor, 836 Arlington Street at 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with burial/interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
