Murray William Sangster, 83, of Brandon, MB, died peacefully November 19, 2024.
He was born on December 9, 1940, to Edna and William in the RM of Woodworth, growing up with his two brothers and one sister on the family farm near Kenton, MB.
Murray attended Brandon Teachers College, forming lifelong friendships with his fellow classmates of Class of ’60 -’61 with whom he regularly organized reunions. Following two years of teaching he joined the livestock division of the Brandon Experimental Farm, and formed another set of lifelong friends, some of whom he still had breakfast with weekly, including on his last day of life. Finally, in 1979, he moved to Canada Post as a letter carrier, retiring in 1997, where he formed yet another close friendship group.
He married Carole on July 20, 1968, and after securing their dream property on Grand Valley Road went on to have three children, Vaughn, Jeff and Cheryl. He farmed on the property and together with Carole, created an idyllic life for their three children and a site of magical visits for their four grandchildren, Ryan, Jared, Brandon and Dylan.
He was an avid curler and returned to the joy of old-time dancing later in life. In retirement, he enjoyed travelling to many destinations including Scotland, Bermuda and Australia.
Murray is survived by Vaughn (Jacqueline), Jeff (Samantha) and Cheryl (Gordon), Ryan, Jared, Brandon and Dylan, Carole, brothers, Albert (Elaine) and Harvey (Bonnie), niece Rhonda (Chad), nephew Darren (Bernie) and special friend Marsha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and William, sister Carol and baby nephew Hugh.
A memorial service will take place at the Victoria Inn – Grand Salon, 3550 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
Donations may be made in Murray’s memory to Canadian Wildlife Federation, 350 Michael Cowpland Drive, Kanata, Ontario K2M 2W1 (CanadianWildlifeFederation.ca).

I'm sending deepest sympathy to all the family, to Carole, and to Marsha. Murray was always an interesting person and very knowledgable about many subjects. We will miss him on the dance floor, but I can imagine him dancing on the streets paved with gold. Dance on, Murray! - Posted by: Doreen Delgaty (Friend ) on: Nov 27, 2024
