BARBARA GAIL HARPE

August 23, 1955 - December 2, 2024

Surrounded by her children, Barbara Gail Harpe passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the age of 69 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

Born on August 23, 1955, to Lloyd and Violet Burton, Barb grew up with her siblings in a loving household on 9th Street in Brandon. She spent her childhood playing with friends and visiting family in the neighborhood. Even as a young girl, Barb’s independent spirit shone brightly. It led her to leave home early and move to British Columbia, where she began the next chapter of her life.

While living in Vancouver, she connected with her future husband Peter Harpe, a fellow Manitoban. They married and welcomed their first child together, Abbey. After some time on the west coast, Barb and Peter eventually returned to her hometown of Brandon, where they expanded their family with the arrival of Sarah and Erik.

Barb was a proud mother, often seen cheering Erik on at baseball games. She instilled a love of music and the spirit of volunteerism by supporting the Brandon Folk, Music and Art Festival throughout their childhood. Lasting memories were made at Minnedosa, in the tent camping and packed into vehicles on long road trips. Family gathered at Grandma and Grandpa’s house for big dinners on all the holidays that were important to her.

Professionally, Barb worked for 38 years at Brandon University ending her career in the Senate Office. She became a trusted and friendly face, helping countless students navigate the course calendar with patience and care. Along the way, she formed lasting friendships with her colleagues.

In her personal time, Barb had a wide range of interests. She was an avid gamer, spending nearly every Saturday night playing Dungeons & Dragons with the guys. A lifelong music lover with a knack for winning concert tickets, she had an enviable list of concerts attended. Barb saw legends like The Who, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Tragically Hip, Foo Fighters, Buddy Guy, and B.B. King.

One of Barb’s greatest joys came later in life with the arrival of her grandchildren: Truman, Benjamin, and Adeline. As a caring Grandma, she loved to bake their favorite treats and always seemed to find the perfect gift to brighten their day. Her warmth and thoughtfulness created special memories that will remain in their hearts forever.

While her family had hoped for many more years together, Barb’s love and kindness will live on through those who knew her. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.

Barb was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Violet Burton, husband, Peter Harpe and sister, Mavis Burton.

She is survived by her loving children, Abbey Harpe, Sarah Davis (Jason and Jordan), Erik Harpe (Jillian). Grandchildren, Truman, Benjamin and Adeline; sister, Diane Burton, and a large extended family.

A Celebration of Barb’s Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 – 18th Street North Brandon, MB on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating the life-saving gift of blood.
