DON MOREN

1947 - 2024

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Don Moren at the age of 77.

Don passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, surrounded by family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer with quiet strength, optimism and little complaint.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his daughters, Carey and Erin (Evan) and grandchildren, Hannah and Adam, his brother Ken, sisters, Gail, Cheryl, Patti, Barry’s widow Debbie and their families.

He was predeceased by his mother Carol Grant, stepfather Jack Grant, his father Clarence Moren and his brother Barry.

Don was a loving, supportive husband, a present father and an involved grandfather. His kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness were unmatched. He was a patient listener, who truly cared about others’ concerns and always offered sage advice.

Don had many friends and colleagues around the world, with many colleagues turning into treasured friends. In the investment community, he is remembered as “the nicest guy on Bay Street.” Thank you to his friends who buoyed his spirits with frequent visits, calls and messages throughout his cancer battle and for the outpouring of support and shared memories we have received. It comes as no surprise that Don was well-loved and highly regarded by his friends in return.

Don enjoyed an accomplished career in stock investment and money management. His career took him to Regina, Toronto and ended in Winnipeg where he acted as Director of Canadian Equities for the Manitoba Superannuation Fund. He had a conservative and contrarian approach to the market and loved talking shop and watching stock tickers on BNN with the sound off.

Throughout his life, Don enjoyed golf, curling, extensive travel, fine wine and dining and cottage life at Victoria Beach.

Don was a kind, intelligent and gentle soul and an enormous blessing to all that were fortunate enough to know him. We will forever cherish Don and our memories with him. We wish there were more like him in the world and that we had many more days to share with him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, most likely in the summer of 2025. We will be in touch with details closer to the date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in Don’s memory.

We stayed in touch, even sharing his journey with cancer. Don would often assume the underdog role but was always optimistic, patient and usually right! I feel really fortunate to have known him.
