It is with shattered hearts that the family of Peggy Anne May (nee Hossack) announces her passing on December 3, 2024. After a brief and private, incredibly courageous battle with cancer, she passed at home, wrapped in the love of her family.
Born on June 6, 1956, in Winnipeg to Gladys and Jack Hossack, Peggy grew up in St. James attending Bruce Junior High, Silver Heights Collegiate and later Sturgeon Creek High School.
At just 14 years old, Peggy met the love of her life at Bruce and their story spanned a lifetime from there. In 1972, Peggy and Frank welcomed their son, Cory followed by Chody two years later. They married in 1974 and celebrated 50 years of marriage and love this past summer.
They built a life together as young adults raising children, learning as they went. Their love story is one for the history books, to be in their presence was to wish you could recreate their magic. Hard work and commitment, day in and day out. Peggy and Frank are names rarely said in absence of the other.
Peggy was brilliant. She was generous to a fault, with her time and her heart. She was thoughtful, organized and purposeful in all that she did. She loved her people with every bit of herself and it was evident in all that she did. Her circle of friends is too big to mention, but to say it spanned the globe would be an understatement. She will be missed deeply by so many.
Peggy’s professional accomplishments were nothing short of extraordinary. From her early days in the hospitality industry, culminating in her role as the Director of Marketing at the Holiday Inn Downtown. Peggy transitioned from bums in beds to bums in seats when she was headhunted to become Theatre Director at Winnipeg’s Imax Theatre. With continued success, she was promoted to Regional Director of Branding for Imax, opening theatres throughout Japan, India and China. From theatres, Peggy was hired to the Winnipeg Airports Authority as the Director of Marketing and Commercial Properties. There she played a key role in the design and opening of the new terminal in 2011. For the past 12 years, Peggy served as the of CEO at Southport Aerospace Centre Inc. She described her role as the challenge and honour of a lifetime to lead such a committed group of people in a community she grew to love and support deeply. Her retirement was planned for 2025 after countless incredible successes that include the construction of Hangar Five in 2020, the residential development, the update of the Central Plains RecPlex and construction of the new administration building. Her biggest accomplishment would have to be the Future Aircrew Training contract securing Military Flight Training at Southport for the next 25 years. Peggy was so proud of her team and her pending retirement was a bittersweet decision.
Peggy was a devoted CKC member firstly showing Afghan hounds and later showing and breeding Champion Chinese Cresteds. Peggy’s commitment to the Toy dog breed community was one of the greatest joys of her life. Her show partner and dear friend Donna travelled the world with their beloved Wind Kennel Chinese Cresteds. Years of love and dedication culminated with Peggy showing her precious Mary at Westminster in New York in 2023. Peggy’s impact on the show community was profound and her absence will be deeply felt.
Peggy’s personal touch extended to every aspect of her life. She was an amazing hostess, decorator, planner, travel companion, gift giver and friend. She was known for incredible parties, dinners and holidays. Everything she touched danced the edge of perfection, most times toppling over because of her huge, genuine heart but also her flair and knack for all things beautiful. Her home and cabin are the envy of many, but also the most welcoming - a cocktail and an amazing meal were inevitable should you arrive on either doorstep. Lee River will not be the same without Peggy.
Peggy is desperately missed by her husband of 50 years, Frank and her children, Cory and Chody (Mike, Brenna and Connor). She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Quinn and Cavanaugh - the joy they gave her was beyond measure. To say she was proud of her family is an understatement. You couldn’t have a conversation with Peggy without hearing about them. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. Her love for Frank, out of a romance novel. From a distance, you could pick them out of any crowd - never far from each other, orbiting always. The loss of Peggy is crippling to her family, but we will rise together in time if only to make her proud.
She is survived by her sisters, Trish (Morgen, Vicky, Brendan, Anne), Tracy (Scott, Shane, Sara, Taylor and Carson, Kristen), Tammy (Paul, Amanda) and brother Russell (Michelle, Zach and Brayden). She is also missed deeply by Frank’s family, Valerie (Marshall), David (Flo, Rufus, Chris), and Rhonda (John).
Leaving us before Peggy and waiting to greet her are her parents, Jack and Gladys Hossack; her in-laws, Gertrude Colburn and Ron May; and her beloved brother-in-law Roger Thenhaus.
Peggy’s family would like to thank Grace Hospital’s 5 South unit and Southern Health Palliative Care for their compassionate care during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy’s memory can be made to these organizations.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on December 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada at 2088 Wellington Avenue, Winnipeg. Parking is limited at the museum but is available in the Economy lot nearby. Livestream details will be available at a later time.

Dear Frank and Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I had the pleasure of working with Peggy, first a number of years ago when she was with IMAX and then more recently as she was a wonderful Board Member on the Travel Manitoba Board. I so enjoyed working with her... she was such a warm person, professional, committed and fun to be around. She will be so missed. Keep the memories close. Take care. - Posted by: colin ferguson (Friend) on: Dec 23, 2024

Lynn and I met Peggy through Skal and through the Manitoba Hotel Association. Peggy and Frank were the most engaging couple at the many social events when our work paths put us in their company. It is with great sadness but with smiles at recalling the many good times Lynn and I shared with Peggy and with Frank that we offer our sympathies. - Posted by: Jim and Lynn Baker (Friends) on: Dec 22, 2024

I had the honour of sitting in on the hiring committee for the CEO while serving on the board at Southport Aerospace Inc. I was truly impressed with Peggy during the interview and she received my full support for the position of CEO. I could not have imagined what a blessing it was that she was ultimately chosen for the position not only to the organization but to everyone that she eventually had contact with during her tenure. She was dynamic but always humble and caring. Frank as a someone who had the opportunity to be in her presence during my nine years on the board. Please know Peggy was admired, respected and loved. You and your family are her true legacy. - Posted by: Wayne Klippenstein (Friend ) on: Dec 16, 2024

I was fortunate to work with Peggy at the IMAX Theatre at Portage Place. Her vision for the future, her patience, hard work were only surmounted by her fantastic sense of humour. I remember the photocopier affectionately named “Christine” being won in a contest that Peggy had a part in bringing “home”. There was always laughter in the office. No matter if you were a visiting celebrity coming to open a movie, the popcorn girl or a paying guest at the theatre, you always knew Peggy would treat you with the same respect. She was incredible & inspiring….even decades after I stopped working at the IMAX. My thoughts are with her family as they know most of all what an amazing person the world has lost too soon. - Posted by: Sandra Thorsteinson (Routledge) (Former colleague at the IMAX ) on: Dec 15, 2024

A true friend is one where years may pass without contact and when you reunite it’s like time hasn’t past. That is how my friendship with Peggy was. She was kind, sincere, non-judgmental. I loved her like a sister. Our hearts are broken and we will always hold a special place in our hearts for our Peggy. Till we meet again. Peggy and I sat next to each other and we shared a desk at the Airliner Hotel! It was my 1st sales job since graduating from Red River College and Peggy jumped in and took me under her wing. Our careers kept us in touch for over 40 years and we would get to see each other at many Business and Chamber Events. Peggy was such a positive force in my life, I will remember her always. Simply said, Peggy was Grand Lady. In the years that I have known her, never did I ever hear Peggy say a mean thing about anyone. Her professionalism, encouragement, good sportsmanship, and smiles to everyone at dog shows was always present. Knowing her has been a privilege. I will forever be envious how she would look so great wearing that nice shade of red lipstick. Peggy will certainly be missed by all she touched. - Posted by: Martine Couture (Friend ) on: Dec 07, 2024
