Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN (KATHY) HORKOFF
With sadness and gratitude for her life, we announce the peaceful passing of Kathy Horkoff (nee Chernenkoff), aged 97, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Wednesday morning, November 27.
Kathy was predeceased by her sister Ethel Harrop, her loving husband Michael and parents, Pauline and Nicholas Chernenkoff.
She is survived by her family: son Jeff Horkoff (Judy) and daughter Lucille Bart (Ernie); grandchildren, Michelle (Chris), Michaila, Lindsey (Khali), Nigel, David (Tammy), Andrew (Nicole) and Quintin (Callen); great-grandchildren, Aiden, Kealey, Emery, June, Ethan, Emilia, Adriana, Frankie, and Caspienne; nieces and nephews, Kim, Camille, Brent, Tab, Bonnie, Lil, Darlene, and Randy.
Born in Pelly, Saskatchewan and attended high school in Arran, Saskatchewan, she travelled to Grand Forks, BC to visit grandparents where she met her husband, Michael. They moved to Winnipeg in the early 1950s to raise their family. She worked in hospitality as well as managing their rooming houses on Scott Street. She formed and maintained lifelong relationships with many of their tenants over the years.
Kathy was a kind, gentle, charitable and caring person always finding time for her family, neighbours and community. She was adventurous, enjoying world travel, nature excursions, volunteering, and engagement with civic and community committees.
The family expresses gratitude to Rev. Karen Toole, staff at Concordia Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital Emergency care, WFP, and Neil Bardal Funeral Centre.
As per Kathy’s wishes a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Kathy was my roomate on the 1991 trip to Russia. She could speak the language and often we got a phone call at midnight from staff in the hotel who wanted to chat with her. She helped me out quite a few times when Intourist needed to be questioned. She was very interesting as she was searching for information on her Tolstoy relatives. It was wonderful to get to know such a wonderful lady! Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Elsie Klassen (Travelling friend) on: Jan 04, 2025

Kathy had a special grace about her that was attentiveness and being well informed in community matters. Kathy always was ready to learn as well; she encouraged the children to seriously pursue higher education through hard work. Without fail Kathy attended events that any of her family was involved in, and there were many, providing homecooked meals lovingly. I cherish the cake recipe she kindly gifted me after one of the many family gatherings. + Rest in Peace dear kind soul. - Posted by: Paul and Connie Hamel (daughters sister- in- law) on: Dec 08, 2024
