MARGARET ANNE KEOUGH

It is with deep sadness we announce the untimely passing of Margaret Anne Keough on December 6th at the age of 74.

She is survived by her four children, Robert (Angela), Kris (Anna-Marie), Matthew and Kate (Cody) and her eight grandchildren, Emily, Alexa, Ella, Leah, Paige, Liam, Emmet and Declan, along with her sister Mary (Laurie) and, of course, Tom.

Mom had the chance to connect with her two biological sisters, Pat (Bill) and Donna during the last few months of her life. We are heartbroken you only had a few months to get to know each other but so grateful for the time you had.

She was predeceased by her parents, Scott and Doris Marshall. She grew up in River Heights, graduating from Kelvin high school where she developed her trademark silver streak in her hair at just 16 years old. She spent her childhood summers at the family cabin in Whytewold, where she explored the beaches and her and her friends had minor altercations with the RCMP. They had picnics where her mother served milk in large pitchers that got very warm in the summer sun. She never drank milk again.

She and Tom married and raised their four kids on Hillary Crescent where they developed lifelong friendships with many neighbors. They meant the world to Mom. She cross-stitched and read every single day. She curled in the wild Saturday Night mixed and Wednesday Ladies Leagues at Deer Lodge Curling Club. Perhaps one or two white rum and Pepsis were enjoyed along the way.

She volunteered at Crestview School for so many years they created a job for her. She took pride in her work and helping the kids that needed extra support with Reading and Math. She was well respected and loved by her colleagues, she loved them all right back. Mom cherished her signed patrol vest her beloved school friends presented during her retirement.

She was an avid fan of the Jets, Bombers, Blue Jays and Vikings and of course, curling where she loyally followed the extended Gordon family exploits on TV. Her favourite curling squad, however, was her son’s Wednesday night league team, who she hosted many MCA pepper steak dinners for and was never afraid to berate them after a loss.

Mom’s favorite place on this earth was Bird Lake where she spent as many weekend and summers as she possibly could. She loved to drag the kids on daily walks, read as many books as possible and dominate at RACK-0 and Rummoli. She took care of us and our friends during some memorable May long weekends where she taught us the dangers of making ice cubes out of the lake water. She forged lifelong memories with the Mclachlan crew at Booster Lake, sharing years of friendship she cherished.

14 years ago, she had a major stroke that took away many of the things she loved to do. After lots of hard work she taught herself how to read again. She was able to read, watch her sports, visit with family and friends and eat copious amounts of cookies and treats.

We would like to thank Darcie and the amazing staff on the fifth floor of Golden West. The care and friendship they provided Mom over the past ten years we will never forget. We’re quite sure they didn’t have many residents with the sarcasm, wit and sense of humour that Mom had. We didn’t realize how much impact she had on them until the nurses and healthcare aids took the time to share stories and tearful goodbyes during her final days.

We are especially thankful to Mary and Laurie, who visited Mom weekly and kept her in full supply of O Henry bars and Ju-Jubes and seemingly one million books that we have donated on her behalf.

As per Mom’s wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date for family and friends.

Mom thank you for everything,

we will love you forever.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I remember Marg as a kind, caring, and valued Crestview Support Staff team member. She could be counted on to always “go the extra mile” in supporting teachers, students, all Crestview school events and activities. Marg’s generous nature, her radiant smile and keen sense of humor were gifts that would bring laughter and smiles to all at Crestview. My sincerest sympathy to her family. - Posted by: Sandra Simonson (Retired Crestview Principal) on: Dec 26, 2024

  • Margaret was my first date. It was when we both went to River Heights in grade 8. It was a school dance and I thought I was with the prettiest girl there. - Posted by: David Sayled (Friend from long ago.) on: Dec 24, 2024

  • I was sorry to hear about Marg's passing. I enjoyed working with her at Crestview. She would often express her exasperation with the Kindergarten team (Kellie and I) as we had a habit of giving her very small pictures for our calendars to laminate. She would stand in front of the laminator with a pencil, carefully pushing tiny pieces through. In recent years, I would get unexpected phone calls from her if she noticed a news article about one of my boys. She always asked how things were going at Crestview! Condolences to her family. - Posted by: Nadine Langelaar (Co-worker) on: Dec 14, 2024

  • I’m so sad to hear of the passing of Marg. I grew up curling with the Keough boys and knew who there mom was through the Deer Lodge Curling club. But in March of 2000 I started working with Marg at Crestview school. Marg was loved by all the staff and students at Crestview. Marg and Brenda Lemesurier would often call me there work son. Marg would always make me a taco dip for my birthday. It was little things like that that made her special. Sending love to the Keough kids at this hard time. - Posted by: Glenn Buchanan (Friend) on: Dec 14, 2024
