STEPHANIE CLARE MCGURRY

(née WESLAK)

October 5, 1930 – December 9, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce Stephanie’s peaceful passing at the age of 94 years on December 9, 2024, at her home, surrounded by family.

Stephanie was born in her family home on the Birch River, Medika, Manitoba. She always claimed her father did not get her birth registered until the following day (he drove a horse and buggy to town) and for many years we celebrated her birthday on two days.

Stephanie was predeceased by her husband Frank. She will be remembered by her children: Brendan (Renée), Sharon (Tony), Bruce (Monique), Edward (Colleen), and Alice (Jim). Stephanie was also blessed with grandchildren, Cara, Danielle, Paul, Nicole, Megan, Sarah, Tyler, Taylor, Max, Kate and Nick and their spouses and partners, as well as great-grandchildren, Levi, Emma and Hailey. Stephanie is also survived by her sister Helen and brother Edward (Kathy) and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Ireland and the USA. She was predeceased by her siblings, Joe, Sophie, Mary, Frank, Stanley and Gladys and parents, Karolina and Michael Weslak.

Stephanie was a woman of many talents. She was self-taught, having completed her senior schooling by correspondence as well as her teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse, teaching many grades. When she moved to Winnipeg she learned typing and secretarial skills providing her with employment opportunities for many years. Stephanie met her future husband Frank at a CYO Valentine's Dance. She was a beautiful woman with an eye for fashion. Stephanie was skilled in sewing, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She had impeccable handwriting and kept the most detailed accounting of the family finances. Stephanie enjoyed music, starting with listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio and writing down the lyrics to her favourite songs. She learned to play the guitar and she loved to dance with Frank. In her later years, Stephanie wanted to listen to “modern music” and often asked for us to Google lyrics of songs she had heard on the weather network. She loved watching her own children play sports and sing in choirs. In her later years she kept busy watching sports on TV. Curling, golf, hockey and football were her favourite shows after CNN and Canadian news. She was well versed in current events and could have discussions with anyone - so long as they agreed with her.

Thank you to all Mom's Friends, Relatives, Neighbours, Medical/Care professionals and everyone who helped her live a fantastic, full life!

Stephanie’s love of her family was the utmost part of her daily life. She loved cooking and providing a welcoming home for all who stopped by, including her children’s friends. Her cooking was the best and the kitchen table was The Heart of our Family; no one ever left hungry and without feeling loved. And that is what we will miss most about Mom.

A Celebration of Stephanie’s life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024. Reception with food and beverages to follow.
