JOAN ROSE SUDERMAN

December 18, 1947 - December 17, 2024

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Joan Rose Suderman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on December 17, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital after a lengthy illness, just one day shy of her 77th birthday.

Joan was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on December 18, 1947, to Joseph Kowal and Rose Kozminchuk. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Gary Kowal. She is survived by her sister Gayle (Carl) Martin.

Joan is lovingly remembered by her husband of many years, Rick Suderman, and their three children, Dawne (Kelly) Braden, Lindsey Gibbs, and Scott (Erica) Suderman. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy throughout her life.

Joan spent the early years of her marriage living in the country, a life she cherished, before eventually moving to Winnipeg, where she found her true home.

She adored tending to her yard, filling it with vibrant flowers each summer. She and Rick also shared a love for travel, particularly to warm destinations, with Hawaii holding a special place in their hearts. Though Joan had plans to continue exploring new places, her health ultimately prevented further adventures.

Joan was a devoted grandmother who delighted in creating special memories with her grandchildren. She was known for making their favorite treats, including her famous spaghetti and meatballs and gooey rice crispy cake, always sure to add a splash of her secret ingredient - “Mexican Vanilla.”

Joan was a constant presence at her grandchildren's sporting events, always cheering them on with her signature mini Winnipeg Jets cowbell. She never missed an opportunity to tell her grandkids, “I love you to the moon and back.”

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the exceptional staff at St. Boniface Hospital, ward 5B, for their compassionate care and support during Joan's final days.

A celebration of Joan's life will be held at Glen Eden 4477 Main Street on Saturday December 28th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, a cause dear to Joan's heart.

  • Dear Rick and family, I am so very sorry to hear of Joan's passing. I heard throughout the years from other family members, that Joan was happy and was a wonderful wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. It is a tragedy that she was taken from you much too soon and I wish she could have spent more of those happy years with you. Nothing anyone can say can make you feel better; but please accept my sympathy for this great loss. Carolyn - Posted by: Carolyn Gillespie (stepsister) on: Dec 21, 2024
