Norma died peacefully on December 15, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Dr. William Rennie, sons, James (Tracey) and Cameron (Kristy), and five wonderful and much-loved grandchildren; Weston, Harrison and Ellington and Caelan and Hunter. She also leaves her brother Ivan (Yvonne) and family, and cousins, Joan and Jean.

Norma was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Frederick and Rebecca McCleery. She received her early schooling in Belfast. In 1957, she emigrated with her parents, landing in Quebec on October 31, ultimately arriving in Winnipeg on her 13th birthday, November 11. She attended Daniel McIntyre high school from 1959 to 1962 and the University of Manitoba from 1962 to 1966 graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Norma was employed by the Province of Manitoba as a Personnel Officer from 1966 to 1970.

Norma met her husband to be in 1969, and they were married March 21, 1970, leaving soon after to live in Montreal, where Bill was training. While there, Norma worked as a Personnel Clerk at the Royal Victoria Hospital from 1970 to 1973. After living a year in New Jersey and a year in Winnipeg, Norma and Bill returned to Beaconsfield, Quebec where both sons were born and raised. She played a large role in all their activities and was active in their elementary school.

In 1990, Norma returned to Winnipeg with her family, living here for the remainder of her life.

She became active with Jehovah's Witnesses until developing Alzheimer's disease and requiring memory care at the Waverley-Rosewood residence. Our thanks to the staff for their dedicated care. The family would also like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at the Grace Hospital and the Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care during her last few weeks.

During her life, Norma provided unwavering support for her husband and sons. She loved travel, animals, and food, and was a great entertainer.

Donations in Norma's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or Siloam Mission or to a charity of one's choice.

Cremation will take place, a family graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.

  • Norma was a very dear friend to us. Always thoughtful gracious, a true lady in every way! It was difficult after we moved away to keep in touch because of her illness . We thought and prayed for her often. We have countless cards from her that expressed her kindness and concern. She was often the first person to offer kindness and hospitality to those in need. We admired her special spirit. It is a great loss to her friends and family. We send our condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Judy and Glen Murphy (Friends ) on: Dec 21, 2024
