Derek was one of the funniest quick witted people I have known in my 76 years. He was also the most courageous and inspirational individual I have had the pleasure of knowing. Although we haven't talked in over 50 years, he is never far from my thoughts. Thanks for your friendship and inspiration Derek! My sincere Condolences go out to Kay for the loss of your life partner and best friend. Derek was one of the nicest people I know. He is often the life of a party whenever there was any staff party. He was someone I could always ask for help when I first started working at the Commission. He loved to make people laugh and was great at rhyming and making up songs about other staff member. Everyone loved Derek. Long after he left the Human Rights Commission callers would ask for him refusing to talk to anyone else. He will be missed by those who knew him best because he is a nice guy. May his soul RIP. - Posted by: Beatrice Watson (former colleague) on: Jan 03, 2025

I worked with Derek on several committees at MLPD and he always brought valuable insights and practical understanding to disability issues. The disability community owes much gratitude to Derek for his work. We will miss and remember him. - Posted by: Clare Simpson (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2024
