KARYN PRUDEN-DIXON
On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Karyn passed away.
Karyn was predeceased by her father, Tom, mother, Penny, and younger sister, Pamela. Left to cherish her memory are her spouse, Pat Donohoe, brother, Tom (Sandra), sister, Candy, son, John, daughter, Stevie (Joel), and her very special granddaughter, Light. Numerous cousins and friends will also miss her kind spirit.
Karyn was born in Selkirk and raised in Stony Mountain. While growing up in Stony Mountain Karyn made many friendships; some that lasted her lifetime.
After attending Stonewall Collegiate Karyn enrolled in the Graphic Arts program at Red River College where she graduated with honours and finished first in her class. She then quickly landed a job at Prolific Graphics where she worked for several years. With her career flourishing Karyn moved on to the next stage of her life when she bought a house in Winnipeg, and then was overjoyed when she gave birth to her son, John, in 1992 and her daughter, Stevie, in 1995.
After being a graphic artist for several years Karyn decided it was time for a change when she moved to Selkirk and then became interested in social work – eventually becoming a case worker for New Directions. Karyn was very passionate about helping the less fortunate and was very devoted to the women she helped (“her girls”).
Karyn eventually settled in Petersfield and lived with Pat on their country acreage. She loved the country life and was always happy tending to her animals and plants.
From Stevie: My mom was a very kind, very patient parent. She was very understanding and always made me laugh. We loved to talk about old movies, plants, and to go antique shopping. She loved to have sleepovers with my daughter, Light, and spent time with her making crafts and baking. One of my favourite memories I have of my mom is having a tea party with Light and we made my great-grandma's bannock recipe. Light will forever love Nana. I will forever be so proud I had such a wonderful and caring mom. I'll love you forever.
From Pat: She enjoyed a good bonfire in the backyard, a wiener roast with the kids. Always wanted to be the first to hear a baby chick peep as it comes out of the egg. Always had a deck and house full of plants and always told me about them. Very excited when a new flower would come in, loved going to greenhouses or plant sales. Enjoyed discussing plants with our dear friend Jim Hart. Crocheting was another love of hers. Told me many times about her relatives and how they were related. Had a special place in her heart for all her girlfriends, some from childhood and some from work. She loved the beauty of our yard; the trees, flowers and garden and had a sense to know when there would be a full moon. Loved all our winter and summer birds and knew the names of them and their calls. She never judged people, and she always took great pride in her hair. She loved collecting trinkets and had a story for everyone. The people in Karyn's life that took the time to know her were so lucky.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Cancer Care Manitoba or St. George's Anglican Church, Wakefield.

She smiled with her eyes. Kind and always welcoming. Lots of wonderful of memories together at our Nans's. As adults, we don't have the opportunity to see each other like when we were young but the memories of our youth fill my heart. Condolences to the family, very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Mary Ann (Cousin) on: Dec 28, 2024
