VALERIE MARJORIE ROBERT

(nee GOWENLOCK)

She was born on February 22, 1946, in Doncaster, England and passed on December 26, 2024.

Valerie was predeceased by daughter Karyn and is survived by husband Terry, two sons, Eric and Sean and three grandsons, Angus, Soren and Nevil.

Valerie was a teacher in the Winnipeg One School Division, teaching English and French. She was called back twice after retirement to fill in. Several times former students recognized her and stopped to say hello and catch up.

On trips to France and Quebec, she was referred to a couple of times as “la professeure” because of her flawless and lovely French. She enjoyed our trips but was always happy to come back home to Canada and Winnipeg. She faithfully frequented the little shops and artisans in Winnipeg.

Valerie is missed by her family and many friends and acquaintances. She was known as a faithful dog-walker to be seen every day on the Cloutier trail with one or two dogs.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My Condolences to Terry and family, As a fellow dog walker, I often saw Valerie walking her dog near her house. My dog was excited to see her and her dog. She was a very peaceful, kind and caring person, and she always had a treat for any dogs that she met on her walk. It is my honour to have known her and her husband Terry. - Posted by: Garry Burgess (Fellow Dog Walker) on: Mar 31, 2025

  • It was always good to see Val and walking the trail behind our common street on Cloutier Drive with their friendly dog. I admired her committment to her family, dog, and the neighbourhood. She helped keep the walked area free of litter. We stopped many a time to chat and catch up on our latest travels and activities. Heartfelt condolencences to Terry and his family. - Posted by: Barbara Tallman (Fellow dog walker) on: Jan 04, 2025

  • Terry, Sean and Eric, I saddened to learn about Valerie's passing. While I never knew her real well, I wanted to acknowledge your loss since for so many years Terry handled my accounting needs. We did share a commonality that we both lost daughters at young ages, a burden no parent should experience. Thinking of your family at this difficult time. • My deepest condolences to the entire family. I worked with Val for several years and we were quite close. Unfortunately we lost touch when I retired and moved. I thought of her often, she was such an enjoyable friend. - Posted by: Carolyn Lumsden (Coworker) on: Jan 02, 2025
