NELSON MORRIS SOLTESS

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nelson Soltess at Oakview Place on January 2, 2025 at 78 years of age.

Nelson will be lovingly remembered by Dianne, his spouse of 44 years; children, Erin (Ian) Russell and Jim (Melissa) Soltess; grandchildren, Mason and Zoe Russell, Eva and Emily Soltess. He was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Lena Soltess, and sister Lorraine Manning.

Nelson grew up in the North end of Winnipeg. After graduating from Sisler High School, he received his BA degree at the University of Winnipeg and his teaching degree from the University of Manitoba. Nelson taught in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division for 39 years. He taught at Robert Browning, Voyageur, Stevenson and Strathmillan Schools.

He enjoyed golfing with his long-time friend Richard Dziedzic. Nelson loved fishing and hunting in his youth. He was a devoted father often volunteering to coach/participate in his children’s activities. He was an avid reader and always liked a good joke.

As per Nelson’s wishes, there will be a private family interment.

The family would like to thank Oakview Place for their support and care.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Nelson’s memory can be made to St. Charles - Headingly United Church, 110 Bridge Road, Headingly, MB, R4H 1G3, or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Mr. Soltess was my favourite teacher of all my school years. He taught me in grade 6 at voyageur elementary. It felt like I was always in trouble for not doing what I was supposed, at any given time (ADHD diagnosed later in life). And He was the kindest to me and most calm. I felt like he understood and accepted me and I always felt so happy in his presence. He had a lifelong impact on me. I will always hold his memory dear to my heart. • Dear Diane and Family. I send my deepest condolences on the passing of Nelson. I pray you find peace and comfort in your many memories shared together and know he will be close by in your hearts. I cherish my memories of the many visits he had to Woodridge when we were kids. Love Joyce Tarnowski - Posted by: Joyce Tarnowdki (Cousin) on: Jan 04, 2025
