Peacefully on January 2, 2025, our beloved mother and oma, Mary Gockel, has left us for her new life.
She was predeceased by her husband Klaus and is survived by her five children, Rainer, Ed, Karen Kazubek, Marlene and Bert, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mom was born in Ukraine, the oldest of eight children. She and her surviving family immigrated to Canada in 1948. Her strong Mennonite faith helped her through many difficult times. She loved to garden and bake which she enjoyed to do in her own home until May 2024 when her health declined.
The family thank the staff at Oakview Place for the care they provided to mom these last five months.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard but always near
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Sorry to.hear about Mary. My late husband Gordon and I. Met Klaus and Mary in PV0.and when he.passed away Mary would travel with us. We had some great times. We lived for her kids and grandkids.
