URSULA EDITH SCHINDEL DITCHBURN

February 2, 1953 - December 21, 2024

It is with sorrow that we announce that Ursula Schindel Ditchburn, beloved wife of Richard Ditchburn, passed away in the early hours of December 21, 2024.

Ursula was born in Winnipeg on February 2, 1953, to Erna and Artur Schindel. She grew up on Home Street in the west end, attending school at Greenway, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre. In her later teens Ursula moved to North Kildonan. In 1987 Ursula married Richard Ditchburn and they faithfully supported one another for 37 years. After their marriage they lived in the west end and then in the Whyte Ridge area.

Ursula graduated from the University of Manitoba with an elementary teaching certificate in 1974, and taught at Maple Leaf School until illness would not allow her to continue. Her life was deeply marked by her illness, but she continued to value contact with old and new friends, schoolmates, and colleagues whenever she was able.

Ursula died trusting that she would be in the presence of Jesus. She was predeceased by her parents. She is mourned by her husband Richard and by friends and relatives.

A memorial service will be held at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St. at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025. The service will also be livestreamed.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Ursula and I started teaching the same year at Maple Leaf School. Unfortunately we lost touch when she sadly had to stop teaching due to illness. Years later we ran into her and Richard and our last time together was over a lovely dinner where we agreed to keep in touch and so we did through texts and calls as we were moving out of Wpg. We are so sorry for your loss Richard. Ursula sent us so many kind and meaningful messages these last years. Her faith always shone through and we know that is a comfort to you. Blessings to you Richard from Barry & Ingrid - Posted by: Ingrid Esselmont (Colleague and friend) on: Jan 11, 2025
