Kenneth Moris Wasywich died, January 9, 2025, peacefully in the care of Dr. M. Bruneau and staff at the Pinawa Hospital, Palliative Care.
Ken was born May 26, 1942, Smokey Lake, Alberta; to mother Mary Zetaruk. Mary and Ken moved to Edmonton when Mary married Nick Wasywich and they both took on the Wasywich name and joined sisters, Maryanne and Lillian. Later came sister Doreen and brothers, Doug and Warren.
Ken attended Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Materials Science. Upon graduation, he was recruited by AECL Pinawa Research Establishment at Pinawa, Manitoba. A very fulfilling lifelong career doing research and in his final years of this career travelling around the world to many International Atomic Energy Commission conferences presenting his many research papers.
Ken’s true passion was working outdoors growing alfalfa seed crops and leafcutter bee pollenating crops for himself and others. Later in life his winters were spent being a helper for his good friend Allan Burchanski cutting pulpwood for Pine Falls Paper Mill and in the summers being Allan’s helper road building and lagoon projects.
Ken worked hard and enjoyed the simple things in life. Always full of mischief; the good kind.
Ken is survived by wife Vivian; son Jason; daughter Christina and son-in-law Christoper Goudy and beloved grandchildren, Timothy, Samuel, and Sophia; sisters, Maryanne Thomas, Grace Sendan; brothers, Doug Wasywich and Aran Sendan; sister-in-law Janice and John Challis; sister-in-law Cheryl and Steve Marten; and many nieces and nephews.
Our deep appreciation and gratitude to Beausejour Paramedics, Selkirk Emergency and Dr. Dwayne, Dr. M. Bruneau and all staff at Pinawa Hospital Palliative Care.
Immediate cremation will take place by Sobering Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Beausejour.
Ken’s wishes are no funeral, no fuss, keep it simple. We will carry out his wishes respectfully and with love. Vivian, Jason and Christina.
