GEORGE CRAWFORD JENKINS

1930 - 2025

Crawford passed peacefully on January 7, 2025 just 10 months after losing his beloved wife and best friend of 35 years, Marjorie (Monkman/Wright).

Previously married to Helen (Ruff) for 32 years, he was father and stepfather to Karen (Sam), Karrin (Dane), Sandy (Dwayne), Allan and Marg-Rheta; grandfather and step-grandfather to Carly (Joel), Misty, Dayna (Kevin) and Dewie.

He was a proud prairie boy, an accomplished Agrologist and above all an avid Naturalist. He loved nothing more than to be in his canoe, on his skis, or hiking a quiet trail. He wanted to be remembered as "someone who cared".

Please join us now as we wish him well on his next journey - where he will no doubt be golfing, playing the bagpipes and sipping a fine scotch.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral will not be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba or Fort Whyte Alive in honour of Crawford's memory.

A heartfelt thank you from Crawford’s family to the doctors and staff of the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Department, the Palliative Care unit, the staff at the Shaftesbury Residence, and Home Care - all of whom took very special care of Crawford over the past few months.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My sincere condolences to all the family. I feel very blessed to have had both Crawford and Marjorie in my life. However it happens, Crawford and I just "clicked" as friends. We had so many good conversations, always with some kindly teasing and laughter - sometimes more serious. Most of all I cherish the genuine and caring friend hugs that we shared whenever and wherever we met. I know each of you have very special memories that you will always treasure. • I would like to offer my condolences to Crawford's family. His was a life well lived. I have nothing but fond memories of Crawford and our family gatherings over so many years. Always a happy guy with a bright smile and a few good quips. He had so many interesting stories to tell and he was always genuinely interested in others and their well-being. The book he wrote about his family home and history in Shoal Lake is a such a good read. Each time I have a wee dram of Scotch I will toast Crawford and remember him fondly. He will be missed by so many. - Posted by: Doug Finkbeiner (Cousin) on: Jan 11, 2025

  • Crawford always used to say, when a friend died, “ another good guy gone”. Well, it’s true. Another good guy DID die when Crawford left us. - Posted by: Keith Smith (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2025

  • My sincere condolences to you, Karen, Sam, Carly and Joel. - Posted by: Helen Grandmont (Gus’ cousin. Friend to Marilyn) on: Jan 11, 2025
