BETTY JANE FILLION

Betty Jane Fillion, with her family by her side, passed away on January 7, 2025, at the St. Boniface Hospital. Mark (son) and Deborah (daughter) would like to thank everyone for their visits, phone calls, text messages, well wishes and prayers during her short time in the St. Boniface Hospital; they comforted her and her family daily.

Betty is now reunited with her husband and best friend, Edgar Fillion. She will be received with open arms in heaven by her grandmother Alma Sabourin, her mother and father Evelyn and Rene Sabourin, her mother and father- in-law, Rose and Edward Fillion and many other special loved ones.

Betty Jane was known for her love of chatting and visiting. No matter the topic she wanted to hear everyone’s news, down to the smallest details.

Betty was a kind spirited woman to everyone she met. In her family, community, gatherings or simply waiting in long lines at the grocery store - she never got upset; she would just spark up a friendly conversation.

Her love for children was evident. Not only for the love she shone everyday on her son and daughter but for every child she ever babysat. She babysat them all; her brother and sisters, the neighbourhood children, her nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her earlier days her home was warmed with the love she gave to many foster children. Her doors were always open to enjoy the variety of treats from her candy dish, homemade buns for supper, daily baking of cookies, and her famous chocolate cake. So many memorable moments that will be cherished forever.

A special thank you to the neighbours that would clear her sidewalks in the winter to her surprise and delight. Thank you to Gerry for the numerous rides to appointments and to Don for helping maintain the house after Edgar’s passing. The family would also like to thank Dr. Permack for his ongoing care and the St. Boniface Hospital ER and 4th floor nurses, aides, and doctors.

Mom, you will be sadly missed. Love You Forever, Thank You for A Loving, Caring Home and All Your Support Throughout the Years!

Funeral mass will be held at Thomson “In the Park”, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25. Those who wish to join virtually, please use the following link: funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/102065

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Although I never met Betty in person, we spoke on the phone almost once a week for a year. She was an engaging, caring friend who loved talking about almost everything. I enjoyed our chats and will think of her fondly. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Lynda Gilchuk (Phone friend) on: Jan 20, 2025

  • To: Deborah, Mark, Linda Lewco and all your family, Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your mother and to Lynda for the loss of your sister. I met Betty and Edgar when I was in about grade 4 as I was a lifelong school chum and friend of Edgar's sister Shirley (nee Fillion) Lewco. Shirley and I used to visit Betty and Edgar when they lived on Royce Avenue. They bought a TV before both our families had one so this was one of my first memories of them. Later we would visit them at their house on Southwood and we would visit when Lynda and her family would come to Winnipeg from the USA. Betty would not hesitate to invite us for lunch or supper if we came over at that time. They were a fun couple for young people to be around. After I married and had my son we lived one street away and Betty babysat my son while I worked for a short time. Your obituary describes Betty perfectly, she loved children. She had a gift similar of that to my mother of being able to talk to anyone. I have many good memories of Betty and Edgar and their families. Thank you to Linda for phoning me and informing me of Betty's passing since we had lost touch in the last years. My life was happier knowing Betty and Edgar and their families.
