ANNA LOUISE (BORN) SCHROEDER

Anna Louise (Born) Schroeder of Brandon, Manitoba, passed away on January 20, 2025 at the age of 92. Anna was born January 18, 1933 and grew up in Morden, Manitoba as the eldest of six siblings. She excelled in school, winning a Governor General’s award and going on to study nursing at Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. She married Albert Schroeder shortly after graduating, and they moved to Brandon where they raised their four children.

Anna initially worked as a maternity nurse, and then a home care nurse with the Victoria Order of Nursing. She became a geriatric nurse at the Assiniboine Centre, going on to be the head nurse on nights at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home. Anna and Albert were founders of Grace Mennonite Church in Brandon, where she had a number of leadership roles including giving the meditation many Sundays. She was in demand as a speaker at churches and conferences. Anna was the author of two books and took several university courses in theology after retiring. She also volunteered teaching literacy at Samaritan House after retiring.

Anna was very outgoing and had many friends. She was involved in the Gideons, the Red Hat Society and the Crown Jewels, an embroidery club, and frequent outings with friends. She loved to laugh and had an optimistic outlook on life. She thought deeply about life and faith and lived her faith through being a support and helper to many others. She encouraged her children to think for themselves and to follow their interests.

Anna is survived by her children, Andy (Lorrie), Wilma (Mark), Mark (Eileen) and Karl (Janice); grandchildren, Amber (Zach), Joshua, Simon (Kris), Michael (Polina) and Paige; great-grandchildren, Tarin and Duna, as well as her sisters, Marilyn, Cathy and Clara and her brothers, Ernie and A.J. She was predeceased by her husband Albert and brother Walter.

A Celebration of Life will be arranged for this spring. Donations can be made to the Mennonite Central Committee or Samaritan House.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valleyview Care Home, and Glenboro Health Centre for their kind care of our mom.
